  • “Nature can help reduce the impact of disaster – if we invest in it.” That was the message from a recent webinar hosted by MS Amlin, titled “The intersection of nature and disaster risk reduction – how insurers can build resilience into systems and societies.” Organised as part of the inaugural #Sustain (Sustainability in Insurance) Festival, the session brought together leading thinkers from across the humanitarian, nature finance, conservation and insurance sectors. Here are some standout takeaways: 👉 Marco Lambertini, Nature Positive Initiative: “The best insurance policy you can think of is a healthy natural world.” 👉 Jeremy T., Humanitarian Innovative Finance Hub (HIFHUB - hosted by the Danish Red Cross): On reforesting mangrove swamps to protect communities in the Philippines from typhoons – “A humanitarian response is short-term and one-off…Using innovative finance we can provide longer-term humanitarian relief.” 👉 Oliver Withers, Standard Chartered: “As the real economy transitions, we need to reduce drivers of nature loss. ….and identify where there are commercial opportunities for the private sector to play a part.” 👉 Jessica Zarzycki, CFA, Nuveen, a TIAA company: On the role of fixed income markets in scaling nature finance – “We’re thinking about how the environment impacts society, which impacts the economy. For these projects to really scale…you need all three pillars.” 👉 Jamie Cleary, MS Amlin: On MS Amlin’s involvement in the Ecuador blue bond, and the need for more expertise for nature-related transactions – “How can we best acquire talent in this field and are we actively doing that as a market?” 👉 Rachael Wallington, MS Amlin: On the impact of crop insurance for Indian farmers – “It’s had a knock-on effect of reducing suicide rates, where these would often spike in years of poor yields.” 👉 Sebastian Leape, Natcap: On helping corporates to measure and manage their nature-relate risks – “There’s no single metric for nature…these are some of the challenges we see with our clients…but they’re really not insurmountable.” Summing up the event, Amir Sethu (FCA), moderator and MS Amlin’s Head of Sustainability, said: “These issues are deeply interconnected – nature, climate, health and economics. We must stop thinking silos and start thinking in systems.” Thanks to our expert panel for their insights – and to everyone who joined the session. • Our Singapore team had the privilege of kicking off 2025 with a tasty team-building activity at WILDNESS ORGANIC CHOCOLATE, a social enterprise that empowers adults with special needs through sustainable employment opportunities. Under the expert guidance of the Wildness team, MS Amlin volunteers collaborated in small groups to curate ingredients and craft delightful treats. It was an excellent occasion to foster teamwork, strengthen connections, and step away from the demands of our day-to-day roles, especially valuable for our Underwriting team during the busy renewal season. A huge thank you to Wildness Organic Chocolate for hosting us and for the incredible work they do in supporting local communities. #MSAmlin #TeamBonding #Singapore #Sustainability

  • Our Chief People Officer, Gemma Lines, and Chief of Staff at MS Amlin, Jon Escudier, were delighted to speak at the recent HR Strategy Network Forum. They shared insights of their times outside of the HR profession and how organisational changing HR leaders are enterprise leaders with people as a specialism and not simply specialists in their field, bringing critical skills in commercial translation to people outcomes, conflict resolution, and organisational design. The discussion showcased HR’s superpowers —from navigating complex dynamics and connecting the business together to fostering healthy conflict and driving business resilience. As organisations evolve, HR's role in shaping strategy and driving commercial success has never been more vital. It’s time to shift perceptions and fully recognise the impact of people leaders at the top table, and we are proud MS Amlin to do just that. A big thank you to HR Strategy Network for hosting such an insightful discussion. Let’s keep the conversation going. #HRLeadership #HRStratForum #MSAmlin #PeopleStrategy #BusinessGrowth
