“What’s a lesson you learned the hard way but are grateful for?” Here’s what three anonymous voices shared this week through Maxim: – Don’t force things. Do your best and leave the rest to fate. – Mastering independence has lots of value. – Doing things last minute doesn’t produce great results. Some of the hardest-earned lessons are the ones that shape us most. Every Monday, we ask one question — a small nudge toward reflection and connection. What’s a hard lesson that changed you? #Maxim #MaximVR #BehindTheMind #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #WellBeing #Selfcare #Selflove #MentalhealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #breakthestigma #MentalHealthAwareness

Over 2,000 autistic people and people with a learning disability are currently detained in mental health hospitals in England. An article from The National Autistic Society states 👉 A staggering 71% of them are autistic- many without a learning disability. 👉 The number of autistic people in these settings has more than doubled since 2015. This isn’t just about numbers - it’s about lives. For most autistic individuals, mental health hospitals are not only inappropriate but deeply harmful. Overmedication, seclusion, restraint, and years-long stays (averaging nearly 5 years) are still far too common. And yet, many remain institutionalised. Why? Because the right support in the community simply doesn’t exist. This is more than a policy failure- it’s a human rights issue. The Mental Health Bill, now moving through Parliament, offers hope. But only if paired with real investment in high-quality, accessible community care. At Maxim, we believe in: 🔹Systems that serve people- not the other way around. 🔹Mental health frameworks that recognise neurodiversity. 🔹Community-first care over institutionalisation. 📢 Because nobody should be “stuck” in a system that was never built to support them. “What’s something you wish you could tell your younger self?” This week, the Maxim community responded with everything from personal growth to persistent hayfever: Don’t worry what people think. You’re not alone - better days are coming. Hayfever doesn’t improve. (Sorry, past you.) Our answers may differ, but the act of reflection connects us. Every Monday, we ask one question - no judgment, just honesty. What would you say to your younger self? #Maxim #MaximVR #BehindTheMind #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #WellBeing #Selfcare #Selflove #MentalhealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #breakthestigma #MentalHealthAwareness

🏅 Mental health in sport isn't just about resilience - it's about survival. We often celebrate athletes for their strength, endurance, and discipline. But rarely do we talk about the silent battles many of them are fighting behind the scenes. According to Mass General Brigham research shows 35% of elite athletes experience mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, burnout, and disordered eating. But this isn't just about numbers- it's about the pressure, the perfectionism, and the fear of speaking up. Athletes- from students to professionals- face: 🔹 Intense training schedules and unrealistic expectations 🔹 Identity loss after injury or retirement 🔹 Disordered eating and substance misuse 🔹 Concussion-related mental health symptoms 🔹 Constant performance anxiety and fear of failure And for many, asking for help still feels like admitting defeat. 💬 It's time we change that. Mental health in sports must be part of the conversation- in locker rooms, classrooms, coaching strategies, and boardrooms. From building supportive team cultures to offering mental health education and early intervention, there's more we can all do. 🎯 Because peak performance starts with mental wellness. To every athlete: you are more than your results. To every coach and leader: your support could change (or save) a life. Let’s lead with empathy, awareness, and action! Join us in our latest podcast episode with Ryan McIlhennon - where Keisha York, founder of #bippnetwork (Black People and Psychiatry and Psychology Network), shares her inspiring journey towards addressing #RacialDisparities in #MentalHealth. Keisha dives into her academic experiences, highlighting the isolation she felt as one of the few Black students in her psychology programs and the lack of diverse perspectives in mental health education. This led her to establish #BiPP, aiming to raise awareness and foster change in how racial issues are addressed in the mental health sector. This episode sheds light on the pressing need to decolonize mental health education and ensure greater representation and equity within the field. Keisha discusses the role of community-based organizations and social media in driving this change and shares her optimism for a more inclusive future. The new Netflix drama #Adolescence is sparking urgent conversations- not just about crime, but about what’s happening beneath the surface for young men today. At its core is a chilling moment: a 13-year-old boy arrested for murder. But the question quickly shifts from who did it, to why. Adolescence forces us to confront uncomfortable truths: 👉 How easily teenage boys can fall into toxic online spaces that fuel misogyny, anger, and warped ideas of masculinity. 👉 How "ordinary" families can miss warning signs of inner turmoil and radicalisation right under their roof. 👉 The urgent need for more open conversations, and the importance of early intervention. The show doesn’t sensationalise. It strips away the drama and leaves us with a harsh reality: without open conversations and early intervention, vulnerable young men can spiral- with devastating consequences. As educators, professionals, parents, and community leaders, we need to ask: ➡️ How can we strengthen early intervention- not just through professional support, but through everyday conversations that build trust and openness? ➡️ Are there the right tools in place to help question harmful narratives seen online? ➡️ And are we truly listening, before it’s too late? Sometimes the most uncomfortable stories are the ones that demand our attention the most. If you’ve watched Adolescence- what did it bring up for you? #Maxim #MaximVR #WellbeingWednesday #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #WellBeing #Selfcare #Selflove #MentalhealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #breakthestigma #MentalHealthAwareness #AdolescenceNetflix #Netflix #ToxicMasculinity
