David Pressman, Senior Underwriter – Cargo at Markel, took part in the Cargo Insurance London conference panel session: ‘The Cost of the Red Sea Conflict’, where he discussed the history of the Houthis, the latest developments in recent weeks and how the London Cargo market has reacted to these events. He was joined by Alexander Smith, Underwriter Cargo, Ascot Group, and Ellis Morley, Associate Director Cargo and Commodities, Howden. David also spoke about why it’s important for the London Market to carry on providing capacity to cargo clients within the Red Sea and how Markel will continue offering insurance solutions for insureds in this space. Reflecting on his experience, David said: “It was an exciting and thought-provoking experience taking part in the Red Sea panel discussion at this year’s Cargo Insurance London conference. With the ongoing conflict and growing geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions still remain for vessels transiting through the Red Sea.” He expands: “At Markel, we’ve been a leader in this space for more than five years, providing Cargo War coverage to new and existing clients. As part of our long-term commitment, we’ll continue to constantly monitor the situation globally and look to provide solutions to help facilitate continued international trade." Thank you to Alex Kemp, who moderated the panel session, and to all those involved in organising the conference. #RedSea #Cargoinsurance #Insurance

Sharing insights with Global Reinsurance, Robert Hannaford, Senior Underwriter, Life Science, and Olivia Hogan, Senior Underwriter, Environmental Liability at Markel, discuss the Latin American Casualty market and how the legislative landscape is spearheading the need for insurance cover across life science and environmental liability. “Latin America is increasingly becoming a hub for clinical trials, thanks to its diverse population and strides in healthcare investment and regulatory improvements,” says Rob. “We’re seeing local production expand, alongside advancements in medical technology that are helping broaden treatment options.” Building on Rob’s statement, Olivia adds: “Stricter environmental laws are having a direct financial impact on companies. These laws not only demand compliance but also encourage insurers to innovate in how they assess and underwrite environmental risk.” Read the full article to find out more 👉https://lnkd.in/eAPTXSYy #LifeScience #EnvironmentalLiability #Reinsurance

Chris O'Shea, Managing Director - International Claims, comments: “Throughout their career journeys at Markel, Debbie, Rachel and Natalie have demonstrated exceptional leadership, stakeholder management and delivered a best-in-class service for broker partners particularly in light of the economic headwinds that the insurance market will continue to face into the future. With their deep sector knowledge and expertise, I’m looking forward to seeing them elevate Markel’s Wholesale Claims operation by leading their respective teams and continuing to deliver a nimble and value add service as we position ourselves for further profitable growth. “We’re also very excited to enhance our expertise with the addition of Dan Thomas. 🎙️ Speaking on the Insurance Post podcast, Christopher Burgess, Director of Cyber, reflects on last year’s Crowdstrike outage, discusses the lessons learned, and unpicks Black Swan events to see how they’re continuing to impact cyber cover for insureds alongside guests Joe Tracey, CFC’s Cyber Development Leader, Ryan Dodd, Founder and CEO of Intangic and Will Gow LLM MA DipCILA, Head of Cyber and Technology risks for UK & Ireland at Crawford & Company. 💬 “The CrowdStrike outage really crystallised a lot of companies' minds and the financial impact it can have on them,” Burgess says. “With the insurance spend that’s going on with companies, I like to think this will only increase because it really proved the value of the insurance product with such events that we saw take place which are covered. We’ve seen increased regulations such as the Digital Operational Resilience Act just coming into force in January, so governments are taking it more seriously.” Listen to the full podcast 👉 https://lnkd.in/e6S7_FjS 📸 photo credit: Insurance Post #BlackSwanEvents #Cyber #Underwriting #Crowdstrike
