Can you believe this is our second to last video before Keller’s Sustainability Week? We’ve talked about climate change at Keller, our operations, materials, and equipment, but today, we focus on what it means for our markets. Please watch the video to learn more! #KellerExcellence #SustainabilitySeries#SDG13 #ClimateAction
About us
Every day, people around the world live, work and play on ground prepared by Keller, the world's largest geotechnical specialist contractor. Used alone or in combination, our techniques solve a wide range of challenges across the entire construction sector – from industrial, commercial and housing projects to infrastructure construction for dams, tunnels, transportation and water treatment, as well as projects to address environmental challenges. Global strength and local focus are what makes us unique. Our knowledge of local markets and ground conditions means we’re ideally placed to understand and respond to a particular local engineering challenge. Our global knowledge base then allows us to tap into a wealth of experience, and the brightest minds in the industry, to find the optimum solution. With around 10,000 employees and operations across five continents, we have the people, expertise, experience and financial stability to respond quickly, get the job done and see it through safely. By connecting global resources and local knowledge, we can tackle some of the largest and most demanding projects around the world but the everyday work we do is just as important and, in total, we tackle an unrivalled 6,000 projects every year.

#kellerexcellence

A dear topic for me once again. My friend Solve Hov and his colleagues at NGI - Norwegian Geotechnical Institute and KELLER have conducted a field study related to wet deep mixing. Solve Hov, Henrik Meland, Anıl Helvacıoğlu, Robert Thurner, and Åse Marit Wist Amdal. Distributed Fiber-Optic Strain Sensing in Deep Mixed Columns. J Geot Geoenv Eng, 2025, 151(2), 05024015. https://lnkd.in/dqAp3i2q I’m really excited to share this cool study they conducted in Trondheim, Norway. They integrated fiber-optic cables into wet deep mixing columns, the very first time anyone in the Nordic region has used Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing (DFOS) technology. DFOS was used to measure temperature, strain, and vibrations, and it worked alongside the usual geotechnical tools like pore pressure and settlement measurements. The main goal was to capture how the columns deformed under load, and the sensors delivered an impressive resolution of 2–3 cm. With the columns loaded with up to 5.5 m of soil, the sensors clearly picked up the applied loads. What’s interesting is that the data showed significant variations in deformation along the length of the columns, highlighting a non-uniform behaviour, maybe expected since this type of soil-binder material has high property variability. Plus, the study confirmed that the sensors stayed firmly in place under heavy loads and that their readings were in line with conventional deformation calculations. This study featuring the advanced technique is highly sought after. Previously, measuring deformations at such high resolution was nearly impossible, especially inside the column. Now, this technology enables us to analyse load transfer and distribution between the soil and columns more effectively. Managing load distribution along the entire column proves challenging in design, especially when installing floating columns or columns of different lengths. A deeper understanding will definitely lead to more cost-effective designs by the possibility to optimize the area ratio (based on column diameter and cc-distance), particularly in regions with low embankments or floating columns. I really look forward to reading further studies on this topic. //S #KTHSoilAndRock

Congratulations Lőrinczi Tünde 💐💐💐
Area Manager at Keller and President of the Swedish Rock Engineering Association | Co-chair for the World Tunnel Congress, WTC 2025
