Why Use Thermal Imaging in Data Centres? Data centres house billions of dollars' worth of data, making power reliability non-negotiable. Power flows through HV transformers and busbars, which are usually highly dependable solid copper bars. However, busbar joints—especially bolted ones—are the weakest links. To ensure 100% uptime, data centres conduct stress tests that push electrical systems to their limits. Using thermal imaging, engineers can detect potential failures by scanning busbar joints, PDUs (power distribution units), and other critical components under load. This ensures compliance with manufacturer ratings and helps prevent costly outages. Proactive maintenance = Uninterrupted operations. Is your data centre protected? #ThermalImaging #DataProtection #TechInnovation #datacentre

Choosing the Right Thermal Camera – Key Factors to Consider Selecting the right thermal sensor goes beyond just resolution and sensitivity. Here are other critical factors to keep in mind: Spectral Range: • LWIR (Long-Wave Infrared) – Ideal for general applications like search & rescue • MWIR (Mid-Wave Infrared) – Better for gas detection & high-temperature readings but requires active cooling Frame Rate: • Higher frame rates (30Hz-60Hz) = smoother video for fast-moving targets • Lower frame rates (9Hz-15Hz) = good for static imaging but can result in lag for dynamic environments Colour Palettes & Isotherms: • Different colour palettes help highlight temperature contrasts • Isotherm settings allow you to define temperature ranges for faster target detection Drone Integration & Calibration: • Ensure your thermal camera integrates seamlessly with your drone’s power system and software • Annual calibration checks help maintain accuracy—learn more: https://bit.ly/4kmNesN Cost vs. Value • Define your use case and prioritise the right features to maximise ROI By understanding these elements, you can choose a high-performance thermal camera that delivers precise and reliable data. #thermal #drones #UAV #dronesforgood #RPAS #thermalimaging #thermography #tech #remotesensing

Are you wanting to offer indoor inspection services but have been put off by the price of current indoor inspection drones? Time for you to check out the Xross 1 by Terra Drone Corporation. Reach out to Tim Mammatt if you'd like to know more.

Could this be the next best indoor inspection drone in terms of value and performance? Meet the Terra Xross 1 (pronounced Terra "Cross" 1) by Terra Drone Corporation. For those who don't know Terra Drone, they are one of the industry-leading drone service providers (based in Japan) who operate across the globe. Terra Drone was a big user of the Flyability ELIOS range but decided that they needed a platform that was affordable and offered greater versatility for their needs, thus, the Xross 1 was born. 10 minutes flight time, LiDAR for navigation and 3D modelling, 30m tethered option, 4K video, outdoor position hold and more - all in a smaller and lighter footprint than existing indoor inspection drones currently on the market. Plus, those familiar with the Inspector software will be pleased to hear that their software offers similar capabilities. For a platform smaller than the current ELIOS 3, it has a wide range of features - and at under half the cost of the base ELIOS 3 package! Radiometric Cameras & Field of View – What You Need to Know When choosing a thermal camera for your drone, it’s important to understand: Radiometric vs. Non-Radiometric Sensors • Radiometric cameras store temperature data for every pixel—ideal for detailed analysis and reporting. • Non-radiometric cameras generate thermal images only—better for general awareness and real-time monitoring. Field of View (FOV) • Wide FOV = Covers large areas faster (best for search & rescue and surveys). • Narrow FOV = Provides greater magnification and detail (ideal for infrastructure inspections). • Some advanced cameras allow you to switch between multiple FOVs for better adaptability. If you’re using thermal imaging for detailed inspections, a radiometric camera with the right FOV can provide more accurate and actionable data. Next up: How spectral range, frame rate, and colour palettes affect thermal imaging. #thermal #drones #UAV #dronesforgood #RPAS #thermalimaging #thermography #technology #remotesensing

Thermal Resolution & Sensitivity – Getting the Best Image Not all thermal images are created equally. The clarity and accuracy of your thermal data depend on two key factors: Thermal Resolution • More pixels = greater detail and better temperature readings • Standard resolution: 640x512 pixels • High-resolution sensors: 1280x1024 pixels (4x more detail) Thermal Sensitivity (NETD) • Measures how well a camera detects small temperature differences • A lower NETD value provides sharper, more detailed thermal images • Essential for applications such as electrical inspections and wildlife monitoring If you’re working in detailed inspections or search and rescue, investing in high resolution and low NETD will make a significant difference. Stay tuned for our next post, where we’ll explore radiometric vs. non-radiometric cameras—what’s the difference, and which one do you actually need? #thermal #drones #uav #dronesforgood #rpas #thermalimaging #thermography #technology #remotesensing
