About us

The Hotelplan UK family of brands includes Explore Worldwide, Inghams and Santa’s Lapland - all based in Farnborough - together with Inntravel, based near York. Inghams taps into 90 years of exploring the outdoors. Ski the slopes, walk the walks and explore the Lapland wilderness. If nature’s in your nature… if you’re itching for adventure - you’ve found your people. Established in 1981, Explore is an adventure travel operator offering an inspiring collection of small group guided trips to more than 100 countries. Explore's award-winning guides and commitment to responsible travel create authentic travels around wildlife, culture and much, much more. Explore became B Corp certified in 2024. Inntravel specialises in slow travel, where customers can discover the lesser-trodden paths and take their time to enjoy their surroundings on foot, by bike, or even cross-country skiing. Inntravel is recognised as one of the UK's leading specialist tour operators, staffed by lovers of the great outdoors. Santa's Lapland offers the kind of Christmas that comes but once in a lifetime. Whisking families away to magical Lapland during the festive period and giving them the chance to meet Santa and his cheeky elves. Santa's Lapland makes fairytales come true. Don’t be surprised if the grown-ups are as excited as the kids. Situated in the far north of Finland, hidden in the snowy forests of Saariselkä, more than 200km above the Arctic Circle. All brands within Hotelplan UK share the same commitment to looking after our planet; and looking after our people - whether that be our team, our customers or the suppliers and communities that host our guests across the world.

Updates

  • This winter, Inghams Brand Ambassador and Olympian Chemmy Alcott took the train out to St Anton to find out how Inghams is progressing towards the sustainability goals she helped us introduce two years earlier.   Have a watch to see what actions Inghams has been taking to reduce the footprint of its ski holidays. From small, positive changes like more vegetarian meals and reducing the energy consumption of accommodation, to bigger efforts like enabling more guests to travel to the mountains by rail, Inghams has so far reduced the carbon intensity of its ski trips by 16% on a per person, per night basis.   There is a lot more to be done, but Inghams continues to work hard behind the scenes to protect the future of the destinations and activities it loves whilst delivering the excellent experiences customers expect and deserve.

  • Thanks Richard Hammond and Green Traveller Media for interviewing our very own Prue Stone for her answer to 'If there was one thing I would change...'

Can there be the required action on climate and nature emergencies without social justice? Prue Stone, Director of Sustainability, Hotelplan UK, argues that until we address the crux of social issues, we're not going to be able to progress environmental issues at the pace at which we need. "If there was one thing I would change... "It is the prioritisation of the social justice that needs to happen, particularly here in the UK." 🙏 Prue 🎬 Richard Hammond This post is part of a series of interviews I'm filming with people across the travel and tourism industry, where I ask them to answer in less than 60 seconds, "What's the one think you'd change in travel, given the climate and nature emergencies?"

  • 'We should be celebrating women all year-round!' An entirely sensible take-away from one of the series of webinars we've hosted during March marking International Women's Day. Nicky Lyle has already created the perfect summary - so over to her for this one! But thanks on behalf of all of us Hotelplan UK to our speakers Jo Rzymowska, Julia Lo Bue-Said D.Litt, Sarah Fussey, Jae Hopkins, Elise Wortley, Prue Stone, Emma Gray and Nicky Lyle herself.

Over the last week, we celebrated International Women’s Week at Hotelplan UK, learning from incredible women in our business and wider industry. With such a strong representation of women in travel, I’m always impressed in particular by the ongoing commitment of the HPUK Board, the wider Hotelplan Group and industry leaders in empowering women to thrive. As the week wrapped up, I was reminded that—regardless of gender—most people show up with positive intentions to support and respect each other. There are too many negative statistics and challenges looming so let’s not lose sight of that impact we can have together, particularly as this isn't ultimately about a day or a week but about our on-going people strategies and day to day decisions. We kicked off with the trailblazing Jo Rzymowska, were uplifted by our inspiring Marketing Directors Jae Hopkins and Sarah Fussey, celebrated the pioneering adventures of Elise Wortley, Woman With Altitude, and closed with the empowering Julia Lo Bue-Said D.Litt. Huge thanks to Prue Stone and Emma Gray for hosting — all these conversations reinforced the power of collaboration in travel and how, together, we can drive real change. Key takeaways: ✅ Jo highlighted that indifference is the biggest threat right now and the importance of continued male allyship. ✅ Jae and Sarah showed how women can lift each other up, overcome challenges, and still compete in business. ✅ Elise reminded us of the struggles early pioneering women travellers faced in being taken seriously—compared to the many platforms we have today. ✅ Julia encouraged us to take ownership of our journeys and push ahead with confidence and self-belief. A huge thank you to these incredible women for sharing their voices and to my HR team—a powerhouse of decisive women who motivate me every day! 💪✨

🥾 Taking strides for better mental health 🥾 40 of our team will soon be strapping on their boots to take on two 23-mile walking challenges to raise money for Inghams’ charity partner Mind Over Mountains.   🌄 One group will take on the Surrey Three Peaks – a circular route covering the county’s three highest summits – and the other will walk the London Royal Parks, from Bushy Park to Primrose Hill via seven Royal Parks and many other iconic London landmarks. 🌳 We’re excited to take on this challenge, both to raise funds and to embrace Mind Over Mountains’ philosophy of ‘Restoring mental health, naturally.’ The walks on 14th March are expected to take somewhere between nine and 11 hours, so they will be a test of mental and physical endurance - and a great team building event for those participating. 🚶♂️ 🚶♀️ 🚶♂️ 🚶♀️🚶♂️ 🚶♀️ The great outdoors and the spirit of adventure are threads that link of all of Hotelplan UK’s brands, so we’re proud to support the fantastic work carried out by Mind Over Mountains. Can you help our team reach its fundraising target of £10,000? If so, please find our JustGiving link in the comments. Our team members are eligible for up to two volunteering days each year to assist local charities or community projects.   People can take these volunteer days by themselves, or team up with colleagues. Activities might include fundraising; working at an environmental or conservation project; or participating on the board of a charity or community entity (i.e. School Governor Duties). Last year, 157 volunteer days were taken; and for 2025, our aim is for 50% of the allowance to be used.   Our upcoming team volunteer opportunities include tree-planting at the Wild Ingleborough landscape-scale restoration programme led by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Natural England; and fundraising marathon-length walks across Surrey and London with Mind Over Mountains.   If you know of volunteer opportunities our team might want to consider – particularly on an individual basis – please feel free to drop details in the comments.   [Slide here is extracted from our Planet & People Report 2025 available at hotelplan co uk/ sustainability]
