There are so many opportunities for Welsh companies to solve the real issues facing our communities and the economy, we need to back Welsh business with confidence!

A pleasure for GroupEd to sponsor the @plaidcymru business reception last night kicking off their conference. We talked about how we need to back Welsh businesses, grow confidence in our ability to build global companies, keep more of the Welsh pound in Wales and deliver high quality jobs in tech for the future. • We're delighted to be working with Hartree Centre and Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd to supercharge our development of AI driven reporting, enabling us to offer enhanced support to schools.

AI holds significant potential for transforming the educational sector by enhancing communication among students, parents, and teachers. GroupEd is an emerging technology company dedicated to advancing this field, who completed an Assist with two Data Scientists from our Hartree Centre Cardiff Hub. Ahmed Abdellah and Asad Javied, PhD showcased the ability of LLMs (large language models) to summarise data, by using the notes that teachers write when recording student absence to find patterns. This can then be used to create alerts identifying students that need help.  They also provided knowledge transfer on how LLMs work, how to address challenges in using them, and what use cases they would work well for. This reassured GroupEd’s team, with Sam Robson-Davis, (Head of Systems Development) stating “This assist has helped to ensure development time on innovative, AI powered projects will be better focused.” This is one of the examples of the hidden insights LLMs can help find - if you’re interested in seeing what can be done with your SMEs data, contact us at hartree@cardiff.ac.uk Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, CU Home of Innovation, STFC Hartree Centre, STFC, #sbarc|#spark

  • 📉 "...school year ended dramatically with a major global outage that brought down the leading MIS provider..." 📉 I know things can get hectic at the end of the school year, and let's face it, Friday morning's outage wasn't exactly ideal. Many schools are still feeling the effects, and that's completely understandable. You might be wondering what happened and how to keep your school data on track. Rest assured, there are solutions! Here is an update from our lead developer at GroupEd: The school year ended dramatically with a major global outage that brought down the leading MIS provider for several hours on Friday. Many areas remain affected, prompting important questions: What happened, and how can we ensure our school data remains up to date? An update from a security provider caused widespread disruptions, including many Education MIS Users. Additionally, a recent MIS update resulted in over a week of downtime for some schools, disrupting their attendance reporting. Enter GroupEd! We're excited to announce GroupEd 2.0, with numerous enhancements planned for the summer. Over the past few months, we've achieved 100% uptime, supporting some of Wales' largest schools. Even when their MIS fails, GroupEd's automatic recovery ensures schools can report attendance marks back to MIS once it's operational again. Unlike some MIS systems, which don't publicly disclose uptime targets, GroupEd aims for an impressive 99.999% uptime, far exceeding competitors. We achieve this through: ·                     Real-time automatic database replication ·                     Point-in-time recovery backups, accurate to the second Why did this happen? Unfortunately, cyber warfare is a persistent threat. It appears a cybersecurity firm's rushed release caused this recent disruption. At GroupEd, we prioritise data security with encryption at rest and in transit. While most systems encrypt data in transit, it seemingly does not do so at rest. What's next for GroupEd? We're striving to enhance our 100% uptime with automatic recovery during outages. Already functioning as a full MIS for many schools, we're developing an extra layer to our system to boost performance and reliability. With large secondary schools generating vast amounts of data, we plan to empower them with real-time analytics. And that's the scoop on GroupEd! We're here to give schools the peace of mind they deserve when it comes to data security and uptime. If you have any further questions about GroupEd or how it can help your school, don't hesitate to reach out through our website www.GroupEd.org.uk
