🏗️ Demolition work has begun on the fire damaged Whitchurch Sports centre in Bristol. 🤝 We’re working with Lawson Group Ltd Demolition to take down the derelict building, which was severely damaged in a fire in August 2023. 🏘️ Once demolished, the land will help facilitate our Hengrove Park development, which will create 1,435 new homes, plus new sports and community facilities on the site of the former Whitchurch airfield. Thank you to the Lawson Group Ltd Demolition team, and to local people for their patience during this work. Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/dUFBnnuS

As our cities continue to grow, what will urban living be like in 2050? This month, our Development Director, Christiana Makariou, joined Insider Media's South West Business Insider roundtable, to discuss the cities of tomorrow. Big topics were covered, including housing delivery, sustainable design, smart cities, and community. 🏡 We explored the challenges of home building on urban sites, often surrounded by established neighbourhoods. 🏗️ New developments must stitch into their surroundings, with well-considered public spaces and connections. This helps emerging communities integrate seamlessly. 🏘️ In contrast, master-planned sites like Brabazon and Hengrove Park can take an active role in shaping the community from the ground up. This includes providing spaces, opportunities, and community liaison strategies to help foster social cohesion. Thanks to all those who shared their insights: CSquared, Thrings, Macgregor Smith, Brunelcare, LDA Design, Bristol City Council, YTL Developments (UK) Limited ROK Planning, and the University of Bristol. And to South West Business Insider, Colette Flowerdew-Kincaid and Alec French Architects for bringing us together. #UrbanLiving #FutureCities #Bristol #SouthWest #housing

“It’s a skill for life, isn’t it? If you can build with bricks, you can build a home”. Our skills academy at One Lockleaze provides free training to kickstart careers in construction. And teach skills that last a lifetime. This month, we welcomed Moad, who is currently working as a warehouse labourer for an online retailer. His dream is to build his own house one day and he joined our recent brick laying course to test out his skills. “It’s a skill for life, isn’t it? If you can build with bricks, you can build a home, and that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. This course has given me the skills I need to get a new job on a construction site. I now just want to keep learning.”

Meet our happy One Lockleaze homeowners 🙌 The couple are first time buyers and some of our first One Lockleaze residents. They moved to Bristol from Spain for work, and are very happy to call One Lockleaze their new home. It was a busy moving in week, with a new home and a new job in the same few days! A very warm welcome to them both. We're building 268 new, sustainable homes in #Lockleaze with Vistry Group, in what will be a thriving mixed community. And because of our innovative development model, half the profit we make can be reinvested back into Bristol City Council.

Tackling the construction skills gap is at the heart of the Government's housing agenda, and it's close to our hearts too. We joined the Home Builders Federation at the Houses of Parliament to celebrate apprentices and new recruits - and the brilliant industry folk who champion them. It was timely, following the Government’s £600m funding boost to train more skilled workers. And the event was buzzing, with MPs, Peers, apprentices, and partners all sharing ideas to attract and retain the next generation of home builders. We celebrated our One Lockleaze Skills Academy too, which has now trained more than 450 people. Including Jack who, after a career in admin, wanted a change that took him away from a desk and used his practical skills. Our skills academy’s free training, delivered by Partners in Bristol, was the springboard he needed, and Jack is now aiming for a new career as a site manager. Thanks to the HBF for the invitation, our partner Vistry Group, and Partners in Bristol for their training. And a big thank you to Baroness Sharon Taylor for her inspiring speech. We love inspiring the next generation in construction👩🎓 So, we were thrilled to welcome undergraduate and master’s degree students from University of the West of England's Real Estate and Property Development courses to Dundry View in Hengrove last week. The students saw the incredible progress Hill Group UK is making on 53 council homes, and the steel frame method of construction. These frames, which make up each room, are constructed at a factory off site and craned into position, which leads to more precision and much less construction waste. They also saw the sheer scale of our wider Hengrove Park site too, which will become a 1,435 home new neighbourhood, all built around a park the size of 30 football pitches. Dr Alireza Moghayedi, Senior Lecturer in Construction at UWE, said: “The site visit was eye opening. The students got valuable insights into Goram Home’s unique and effective development model. And we witnessed firsthand what is a pioneering sustainable, affordable housing project.”

🫶 Imagine your language was missing words to communicate key issues of our day? In this project from the Scottish Sensory Centre, a group of deaf scientists and teachers have created 400 British Sign Language signs to open up discussions about the climate emergency for deaf students from science labs to classrooms. 💫 Thank you Positive News for sharing the joy. https://lnkd.in/eF8UCuC2

🏗️More homes for Bristol! 🏠 Work has started on our newest site with Vistry Group We're transforming a former school site in Hengrove - empty for over a decade - into a community of 200 new sustainable homes. Half of the 130 homes built in the first phase will be affordable, for social rent and shared ownership. The other half will be sold on the open market. Phase two will be a 70-home extra care facility for older people with care and support needs. We’re incredibly proud of this development, which will transform empty brownfield land into much needed new homes for people young and old. It's the fourth Goram Homes site in construction, meaning we're now building around 600 homes. And we were thrilled to share progress with Cllr Barry Parsons and Cllr Andrew Brown ✅ Bristol City Council
