Last week, Scott and I had the pleasure of attending the NHF Conference in Liverpool, catching up with many of my clients over coffee and breakfast! It was great to hear from industry leaders like Anna & Mohit on Transformation and Workday as well as Mark, Ben & Kate on Consolidation and Investment—two topics shaping the future of housing. Here are a few take aways worth sharing: Workday’s Prysm Analytics seems to be revolutionising data management, helping providers move from reactive to proactive cost management. With automation replacing spreadsheets, new system implementations help organisations break away from traditional processes and embrace more efficient ways of working! With recent consolidations, some predict we’ll soon see just 40 major housing associations. Why the push for mergers? Financial resilience, scale, and efficiency. Mark mentioned that scale = capacity; with larger organisations being able to navigate economic pressures, and invest in regeneration at a scale smaller HAs may struggle with. However, mergers aren’t just about size- the challenge is finding the balance between centralised efficiencies and a community-focused service delivery. Ultimately, investing in regeneration is crucial, yet time-consuming and costly. This raises an important question—could new, not-for-profit HAs with a fresh approach outperform long-established providers burdened with aging stock? As the sector continues to evolve, hiring strategies must evolve too. I’d love to book in a coffee with anyone looking to shape their teams to navigate change, attract top candidates, and build resilience.
