🖥️ 🔬 Digital Pathology in action 🖥️ 🔬 Today, The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham visited Stockport NHS Foundation Trust to view digital pathology in action and witness first hand the transformative impact of digital pathology on patient care and medical diagnostics. The pathology team at Stepping Hill Hospital showed the Mayor around the laboratories, talking him through the steps samples take from being taken from patients through to diagnosis from a consultant. The Mayor was shown how the implementation of digital pathology is providing further benefits to this process, both for patients and clinicians, transforming care across the region. Digital pathology is being rolled out to seven laboratories across Greater Manchester, which will allow pathologists from different organisations to collaborate, reduce turnaround times, and improve diagnostic outcomes. Stockport laboratory was the first in Greater Manchester to go technically live with the new technology, and are now using the technology to improve patient care and outcomes. #digitalpathology #patientcare #diagnostics #pathology

Delivering quality patient care in the heart of our communities is part of our ethos at the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network. Our most recent collaboration with Healthy Hyde and Abbott brings this to life by offering patients point-of-care testing for respiratory infections. Spearheaded by Katie M., Programme Director for the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network with clinical leadership from Dr. Sharman Harris who heads up the point-of-care testing group, this new initiative aims to speed up diagnosis and support better clinical decisions, helping reduce unnecessary trips to A&E and overuse of antibiotics. It's #HealthcareScienceWeek this week, and what a great way to mark this by receiving these two certificates as recognition for the inspirational work the team helps deliver in Healthcare Sciences. Over the past year, the team have worked to fostering a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and through the programmes of work they deliver. This has been shown through the delivery of a Neurodiversity workshop for the pathology community in the region. This was to educate pathology lab staff with knowledge, tools and strategies to support neurodivergent people at work. The network has brought together all the POCT leads in the system, as well as collaborating with primary care to demonstrate a fully inclusive approach for patients in the community. The team has also demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community engagement and outreach, setting a standard for collaboration and impactful initiatives. The team has gone above and beyond to raise the profile of the work of Healthcare Scientists with the next generation of the workforce and the public through a vast array of engagement events such as laboratory tours, workshops, conferences and educational visits.

Happy International Women's Day! 💜 Today we celebrate and honour women's contributions to society, economy, culture, and politics. It is also an occasion to consider the steps taken towards achieving gender equality in all spheres of life and that there is still work to be done to address the gender gap. In this blog post, Louise Kemp, Imaging Workforce Lead shares her thoughts for the day and looks to this year's United Nations theme of "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. This week has been a busy week for the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network team as we attended two events held at The Manchester Metropolitan University. 🔵 Meet the STEM Employers event On Tuesday the team hosted a stand at the Meet the STEM Employers event to talk to students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses about the roles in the NHS, especially within diagnostics. The team spoke to over 150 students considering careers in the NHS about jobs and placements available to them. It was a fantastic turnout and inspiring to hear the questions students posed about their future aspirations. 🔵 Student Placement Joint Recruitment Event On Wednesday the team were back at MMU, joining forces with The University of Salford and The University of Bolton to host a student placement recruitment event for second year biomedical science students looking to secure a placement with a Greater Manchester NHS Trust. Organised by Julie Miller, the day was jampacked from start to finish, with team activities and panel interviews with many students securing their placements by the end of the day. #students #biomedicalscience #STEMcareers #STEMEmployer
