Last Thursday, Gallagher Re brought the industry together for an in-person Irish Property event – 'Weathering the Storm' to pose the question "Are Irish Catastrophe Programmes fit for purpose?" Over the course of the afternoon we tackled three main themes: 1. Increased Global Climate Variability: We’ve seen an uptick in the effect of weather events around the world – how could this affect Ireland? 2. Catastrophe Risk in Ireland: Storm Éowyn brought record breaking winds. How does Gallagher Re look at event response, and how do the models stand up to today's and the future climate? 3. Irish CAT reinsurance: Are programmes fit for purpose? Are there products which can offer greater P/L protection? How do we address the Flood Protection Gap?   It also was a pleasure to host Chris Gibney from the Central Bank of Ireland, who delivered an engaging talk on the Flood Protection Gap and the recent Thematic Review of Nat Cat Modelling.   Thanks to all those who attended, we hope the event sparked new ideas on how to address some of these challenges.   Jane Perchard Katherine Gallagher Paul Welsh Gregor Bailey FIA Paddy Ryan

Michael brings a total of 36 years in the reinsurance industry, representing a unique set of skills and expertise to strengthen our existing teams across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. The start of 2025 has brought a new recognition amongst government’s that the tactics of sabotage are changing fast. Offshore energy and infrastructure markets are facing a tricky combination of rising risk, with a lack of consistency in what actions are covered. Whether individual Insurers decide to exclude sabotage risks or not, our aim is to ensure their exposures are understood by the reinsurance community.
