I thought my career was over.
Four years ago, I saw a post on LinkedIn from Steven Bartlett saying he was hiring.
At the time, it was just him, Sophie Chapman, his dog and a big vision.
The rest of the world was deep in the pandemic, but there was something so wildly hopeful about that post that I had to find out what this guy was up to.
I didn’t understand his world and that both terrified and fascinated me. It made me realise how far I’d drifted. I felt irrelevant, out of touch, and haunted by the feeling of being left behind.
We exchanged emails. Nothing came of it. The timing wasn’t right.
Then I thought my life, as I knew it, was over too.
I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, and my world stopped. I lost myself to survival for the next two and a half years—and, as so many people will understand, when you emerge, you are forever changed.
In Jan 2024, while working for Future Dreams Breast Cancer Charity, I found an email from Steven in my junk folder. He was asking if I was still open to a conversation.
It was four years since our first emails - what felt like a lifetime later. I mentally prepared my professional explanation for the “career gap,” the “pivot,” and the drastically different hairstyle!
But when I sat down with Steven Bartlett, Georgie Holt and Christiana Brenton, I just knew. I was meant to be here, with these people, in this moment, building something that mattered. So I told them the truth. The whole, unfiltered truth. And piece by piece, I realised I was still here too.
In April 2024, I joined Steven Bartlett and the FLIGHTSTORY team. Last month, I was promoted to Chief of Staff & COO of Steven’s Private Office alongside Amy Golding.
I’m not a public person, and this isn’t something I usually do. But for anyone who’s experienced a life-altering moment and felt like their story had ended, know this:
sometimes the universe has a strange, beautiful way of showing you exactly when and how to begin again.
And if you’re still in it, still trying to find your way, please remember that every part of you is still there. Waiting. Ready. You haven’t lost who you are. You’re just becoming something new.
To the entire village that helped rebuild me and continues to cheer me on, thank you. And to Steven Bartlett .. thank you for choosing me for this mission!
Time to get back to work. Because building and now rebuilding is what I do best
