Project Update – Trocoll House After working through a PCSA where an extensive enabling works package was delivered inclusive of demolition, sewer diversion, high and low level piling matts, contig and bearing piling, high and low level capping beams the project team is delighted to share that TC1 was erected over the weekend. In a highly engineered solution with a requirement for extensive temporary propping works the tower crane pile cap base was formed 6m below the retained road level, and installed within the narrow 15m wide site all whilst working adjacent a live railway station. Credit to all the project delivery team, supply chain and project consultants for achieving this key milestone! • Farrells' Kwai Chung Hospital Redevelopment (Phase 2) has won the Merit Award in the ArchSD Annual Award 2024. The project, which embodies the design concepts of 'Green Healing Village' and 'Home-away-from-Home', demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to psychiatric care. The new hospital enhances patient comfort through extensive green terraces, home-like ward designs, and landscape gardens. With well integtration of non-institutional anti-ligature features and smart medical facilities, creating a therapeutic environment conducive to effective rehabilitation. Advanced technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), were employed throughout both the design and construction phases to ensure efficient project implementation. The jury's comments on KCH - 'This is an exemplary project with a holistic and innovative approach to psychiatric care within a promising framework of architectural elements.' The jury was impressed by the team's efforts and attempts to fulfil the immediate needs of a diverse range of psychiatric services, the vital role of redefining architecture in modern healthcare facilities.' Farrells would like to take this opportunity to thank all collaborators of this project – ArchSD, consultants and contractors for their contributions to this successful project. This project also won the Autodesk Hong Kong BIM Award in 2023. #FarrellsArchitects #architecture #design #architects #ArchSDaward2024

  • At the beginning of the new spring in 2025, we are excited to share five of Farrells' ongoing projects in China, including TOD integrated developments, residential communities, urban renewal and transportation hub. These projects represent a comprehensive practice from urban design blueprints to the realization of buildings. Each project is not only the birth of architecture but also a deep dialogue with the urban context, current needs, and future developments. From Beijing Shougang Park at the west end of Chang'an Avenue to the sub-center hub at the east end, from Shenzhen Bay to the Xiamen-Kinmen Strait, we adhere to the role of "urbanist architects," injecting continuous vitality into urban evolution. #FarrellsArchitects #architecture #towers #design #mixeduse #urbanregeneration #TOD #urbandesign #transport #CBD #landmark #masterplan #rail #towers

  • Powerhouse, Chelsea Waterfront has been shortlisted for The Pineapples Awards 2025 category Creative Retrofit. Powerhouse was constructed in 1902 to fuel the London Underground. The last of London’s great power stations to be redeveloped, the Lots Road Power station, is significant for its part of the city’s rich history. Its recent refurbishment makes a number of interventions including its change of use, a new roof scape and a permeable ground floor. Shifting the narrative from an icon of power to homes. The homes inside Powerhouse are mixed tenure and of consistent quality. Establishing a new public route through Powerhouse from Lots Road and into Chelsea Harbour and beyond activates the ground floor and enables a series of high-quality pieces of public realm. It is contextually integrated into the wider Lots Road Village, at the heart of Hutchison Property Groups Chelsea Waterfront masterplan. Its new use repositions the building and its place in London - creating its story for the next 100 years. At its heart is a magnificent atrium space designed around many historic elements of the existing building, particularly its four chimneys, resulting in an exciting destination for its neighbourhood and re-introducing the public into the site for the first time in over a decade. Powerhouse is an adaptive reuse and repurposing project that prioritises both heritage preservation and contemporary living in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. Shevaughn Rieck will present to the judges and digital audience on 25 February 2025 at 9.30am. • It was great hosting a group of students from Interior Design in the School of Architecture at the Royal College of Art this Tuesday. The students are looking at one of our older projects developing ideas about the future of the workplace and how older buildings can be adapted to take a new lease of life. We discussed, retrofit, flexibility and futureproofing of projects, and the importance of narrative and context in design. Looking forward to seeing their ideas in few months! Royal College of Art

In West London, Farrells has completed the 15-year transformation of Lots Road Power Station – the ‘cathedral of the industrial age’ – into Chelsea Waterfront’s Powerhouse. Use the link below to learn about how the power station was once the largest ever constructed, with 275-foot-high chimneys, and how it's been transformed into 260 homes with an atrium designed by Fiona Barratt-Campbell. https://lnkd.in/ejEHAF7h
