At Entelechy, DISCERNMENT is the art of cutting through clutter to make sharp, purposeful decisions. It’s vision with clarity. Compare Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk: Bezos’ discernment fuelled Amazon’s empire through relentless focus on long-term customer value, like innovating Prime’s ecosystem. Musk’s discernment drives bold bets on world-changing ideas, like Tesla’s electric revolution, often defying conventional wisdom. Now, add an altruist—Melinda Gates. Her discerning philanthropy through the Gates Foundation targets systemic issues like global health with data-driven precision, balancing heart and strategy. Who’s your discernment icon? Staff Spotlight: This weeks staff spotlight is on our Chairman, Francis Hornak Francis Hornak’s career is a tapestry of entrepreneurial ventures and strategic investments, underpinned by a passion for driving positive change. A handshake deal with a school friend, which paid off after 26 years, ignited his journey as an investor. Over the past decade, he has focused on supporting founders and businesses that align with his vision for impact, particularly in the realm of innovative technology solutions. His entrepreneurial path is varied and storied. Francis has owned and operated an award-winning boutique hotel in West London. Seeking new horizons, he later relocated to New Zealand, where he pursued and completed an IT degree. This pivot led to several years working in the tech sector, sharpening his understanding of digital innovation. Recently, Francis has taken on a pivotal role with Entelechy, collaborating closely with the leadership team to shape its strategic direction and growth. His contributions blend hands-on mentorship with a forward-thinking approach to scaling impact. In 2025, he proudly represented Entelechy at the Times Higher Education Digital Universities UK Finals, a milestone that showcased his dedication to advancing education technology and fostering transformative solutions. This dynamic chapter reflects Francis’s enduring commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change in the world. #duuk #startup #digitaluniversities #staffspotlight #entelechy

Watch Francis Hornak, our Chairman, deliver an impassioned speech at the Digital Universities Start Up Finals. After the event, Francis said the following: 'Entelechy Academy had a fantastic experience attending the prestigious Times Higher Education Digital University UK event at Lancaster University. We had the honour of being one of five finalists in their Start-up competition, where we had the opportunity to present our products and mission in a three-minute pitch. While we didn’t win, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the speech led to engaging conversations with fellow competitors and several attendees. What was especially interesting was that our vision doesn’t directly compete with the other finalists’ offerings; rather, it complements them. At Entelechy, we believe that our approach could serve as a valuable addition to the work of other start-ups, and we’re hopeful that we can build mutually beneficial partnerships moving forward. The Lancaster campus was a welcoming and vibrant environment, and the event itself was expertly organised, contributing to what seemed like a great success. We were impressed by the high level of engagement and the quality of the discussions and lectures that ran throughout the three-day event. We are excited about the connections made and the opportunities ahead. We look forward to participating in similar events in the future and continuing to expand our network in the digital university space. • At Entelechy, we celebrate open-mindedness as one of our 54 character qualities. But what does it mean to be open-minded? It’s the willingness to embrace new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities without judgment or rigidity. It’s about listening—truly listening—to others, even when their views challenge our own. An open mind doesn’t cling to assumptions; it seeks understanding, thrives on curiosity, and welcomes growth. Being open-minded doesn’t mean abandoning your values. Instead, it’s a courageous act of balance—holding your beliefs lightly enough to let them evolve. It’s the spark of innovation, the bridge to connection, and the foundation of wisdom. At Entelechy, we nurture this quality to empower learners to explore the world with humility and wonder. Reflecting on my own journey, I’ve found that staying open-minded often feels uncomfortable at first—like stretching a muscle you didn’t know you had. But each time I’ve leaned into that discomfort, I’ve discovered something new about myself or the world. How about you? When has opening your mind led to a breakthrough? Join us at Entelechy to cultivate this quality and unlock your potential—because an open mind is the gateway to a fuller, richer life. #character #selfassessment #insights #characterdevelopment

Another great  #DigitalUniversitiesWeek, this year hosted at Lancaster University. First visit to this beautiful, self-contained leafy parkland campus - a peaceful setting for the week. Lots of conversation about how the sector can respond to its challenges, pick up the pace, and just a little bit of AI. Session highlight for me was Prof Raheel Nawaz PFHEA NTF's Keynote "Technology and education: Past, present and future" - a provocative reflection on higher education in the context of the digital and AI revolution. The startup competition really highlighted innovation from Coursensu, Entelechy, Novela, Semantikmatch, and Voovo. Congratulations to the winners Novela. Great to catch up with Kate Lindsay, Matt Jenner, Scott Willis, and Lisa Greenslade, and to connect in person with Thomas Vidler, Kylie Hazeldine and others. Huge thanks to Times Higher Education and Lancaster University for hosting such a valuable event - and to everyone who made time to meet with the Tomax-Think Academy team. #DigitalTransformation #HigherEd #AI #EdTech #OnlineLearning #Innovation

A great couple of days at #digital #universities week. Buckets of insight from across the sector. Key points from me: 🚀 The opening panel set the tone. #digital is a strategic imperative, one that must be fundamentally aligned to an institution's purpose to succeed. But beware; 'the pace will never be as slow as it is now', 'we need to learn to live with the #disorder in brings', and this age of #AI and #innovation genuinely challenges us to consider 'what is the role of the #university'. 🌱 It was universally recognised that the sector is already behind others. Green shoots are starting to show; #student #apps, #data #enablement and scaling #AI use cases most prominent. But the sector needs to accelerate and demonstrate more #digital decisiveness if it is to succeed. There were notably more VCs, DVCs, PVCs, and CIOs this year than previously, which shows things are moving in the right direction; #leadership, #investment, #collaboration and #acceleration is essential. 🖇️ Given the challenges facing the sector, a more collective operating model also feels like an imperative. So it was great to see the session led by Mark Thompson, together with Emma Jane Woodcock (UCISA) and Liam Earney (JISC) identify so many potential areas for sector co-creation and collaboration on #digital and #IT services. It will be great to see how that evolves, and what lessons could be learned from the Danish universities collective SRS project https://lnkd.in/e2tXzbHQ. 🛡️ The last day started with two great sessions on #cyber. In the first, Daniel Prince opening up with a 'manifesto' on the importance of cyber and the #future of #corruption in this age of advanced #disinformation; closely followed by PJ (Patrick) Hemmaway with an eye opening personal account of what it is like to live and work through a major cyber incident. 🤖 #AI ran throughout almost every session. Most often in conversation, but often interspersed with some strong examples of how AI can support learners and researchers, as well as how it can be used to enhance assessment and feedback. The #startup competition brought that to life, well done to all who presented; Coursensu, Entelechy, Novela, Semantikmatch, and Voovo. Many thanks to all the fantastic speakers and panel hosts, the Lancaster University team for hosting us, and Times Higher Education for running the event. There will be a full blog to follow, and if you'd like to read my thoughts on last year's event, focussed on #digital decisiveness https://lnkd.in/eQjTAd6C Professor Jo-Anne Murray | Margaret Korosec | Chris Awre | Chris Trace | Catherine Chambers (MBA,SFHEA) | Susannah Quinsee | Jean Pembleton | Rob Court | Kate Lindsay
