📣 Digital Science is pleased to have played its role in reporting on the impact of the UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems (TAS) Hub on the international research community. The report - a bibliometric analysis using data from Dimensions - was co-authored by Digital Science's Hélène Draux (Senior Data Scientist) and Juergen Wastl (VP of Research Evaluation and Global Challenges) with Professor Sarvapali (Gopal) Ramchurn (Director, UKRI TAS Hub and CEO, Responsible Ai UK, University of Southampton). See more details about the report's findings in Professor Ramchurn's post. 🔗 You can also find the full report on Figshare: https://lnkd.in/gwjEtbhD
What impact has the UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems (TAS) Hub had on the international research community over the last 4 years? This is the question we addressed in this evaluation report we are releasing today (on the official last day of the TAS Hub!) Download it here: https://shorturl.at/XF78m This bibliometric analysis surveyed all the publications of all the researchers affiliated with TAS Hub and the TAS nodes. Co-developed with Digital Science, with Hélène Draux and Juergen Wastl, the report provides a number of insights into how research communities have changed their focus, new networks emerged, individuals have progressed. Some key insights: 📜 Publications show strong collaboration patterns—94.9% featuring multiple authors (avg. 4.5 co-authors). Institutional collaboration increased dramatically from 9.1% (2020) to nearly 30% (2023). 📰 6.87 citations per paper average with Field Citation Ratio of 4.87 (5× global field average) 🗞️ 92.4% of citations from outside the TAS network 🏆 Six publications in the top 1% most-cited in their fields Fastest growing areas include: - Healthcare applications (62.4% CAGR) - Ethical AI governance (44.2% CAGR) - Soft robotics (43.1% CAGR) - Human-robot interaction (29.4% CAGR) New interdisciplinary connections have flourished: - Computing + Language/Communication (100% CAGR) - Computing + Psychology (91.3% CAGR) - Computing + Education (91.3% CAGR) - Creative Arts + Computing (32.6% CAGR) These trends show a shift from purely technical development toward human-centered applications. 🛜 Network Analysis Analysis of 11,412 researchers revealed a highly integrated network with over 1 million co-authorship ties. Researchers more frequently published follow-up papers with non-TAS partners than TAS colleagues, indicating the program expanded beyond an insular community. International collaboration was significant (28.4% of publications). 🏨 Sectoral Success The six focus areas showed varied but strong performance: - Health & Wellbeing led with 980 publications - Transport & Autonomous Vehicles produced 78.3 publications per project - Energy & Environment contributed 181 publications despite later start 📚 Policy Impact Eight policy documents from six agencies cited TAS research. A highlighted case study on AI regulation in African healthcare informed a World Health Organization policy document, demonstrating real-world influence. 🏙️ Future Directions Trending topics include (no surprises here!): - Human-centered AI and ethical governance - AI in digital health and cognitive science - Neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces - AI-driven education and communication Responsible Ai UK, UK Research and Innovation Joel Fischer, Derek McAuley, Carmine Ventre, Luc Moreau, Kate Devlin, Wendy Hall, Sarah Sharples FREng, Chris Johnson, Tom Crick MBE, James Dracott, Cameron Ross, Elizabeth Bent, Elvira Perez Vallejos

🦋 The numbers are in: Altmetric data shows new research is now more likely to be shared on Bluesky Social than on X. See the full analysis from Mike Taylor (Digital Science's Head of Data Insights) & Carlos Areia PhD, Senior Data Scientist: https://lnkd.in/d_VeiAh6 Altmetric started tracking research attention on Bluesky late last year. In October 2024, data on Bluesky was still a relatively small fraction of X - but by March 2025, the picture has changed rapidly – especially engagement with new research publications. Mike & Carlos write: "Both Bluesky and X are home to rich and valuable research conversations, but it looks like the days of X’s dominance are over." Discover more insights - and charts! - in the Altmetric blog post: "Bluesky’s ahead, but is X a dead parrot?" 💀🦜 And please follow Altmetric and Digital Science over on Bluesky! 💙 Altmetric: https://lnkd.in/g-65W2dd 🔷 Digital Science: https://lnkd.in/g7Zc53td #Altmetric #altmetrics #research #ResearchImpact
