How many professional conferences have you been to that have lasers and pyrotechnics?? I’ve just returned from the 2025 Digital Accountancy Show in London, UK; and what an experience! Tons of insights and ideas on how to better serve clients and to make my practice more efficient and scalable. I feel like I’ll be back in the not-too-distant future!

Last week I attended my first accounting conference - Digital Accountancy Show, and I'm still processing how many stereotypes it broke: - Suited up (big mistake!) only to find the most unexpected crowd - tech-savvy professionals in casual wear, absolutely pumped about innovation. - The venue? More Slush conference than tax talk: laser shows, silent disco-style presentations, and an energy level I never expected; - Most surprising? These accountants came ready to shop new software, not just to drink beer after the talks. Was so caught up in conversations and demos that I missed most stage talks - but planning to watch all the recordings and share key insights soon. Stay tuned!

Digital Accountancy Show you were fabulous! Beau Bartlett and I have just spent 2 days talking non stop to friendly and new faces. I noticed a big shift this year. The conversation on carbon accounting is changing. Last year accounting firms would be asking us “what is it?“, “how does it work?” - they were right at the top of the awareness funnel. This year we mostly heard from partners of firms who are already thinking about this and just working out the mechanics. Awareness has moved further down the funnel to “which of my clients will this impact? Is it just big companies? How are SME impacted?” This was such a positive change; we are walking away (exhausted &) completely buzzing! Shout out to the friendly faces we love to see at these events and our partners that dropped by to say hi! A few call outs 👍Alexander Alvey - for hosting the fantastic panel digging into how accountants are uniquely placed to offer carbon accounting services 👍David B Horne who is doing very important things in the world of female funding - let’s close the gap. He kindly gave me a signed copy of his book “Funded female founders” 👍It warrants a separate post but I absolutely loved the Womens Breakfast hosted by Lisa Miles-Heal including an inspiring lineup of Women leaders Lucy Cohen, Caroline Plumb OBE and Sarah Gardener . Back to normally (ish) after the trip to Digital Accountancy Show. Yes talks were great. Yes vendors were amazing some new software to deep dive into. The best bit is the community 👌🏼. Speaking to other business owners and working out solutions to real world problems for clients. I can’t see any industry like accounting. And this year it was Lazers, smoke machines and FIRE 🔥.
