Today, the Scottish Parliament voted on new homelessness prevention laws in Scotland’s Housing Bill. At Crisis, we’ve helped shape these laws, which will allow people to get help earlier and get public services to work together to prevent homelessness. The Bill will now progress through parliament on its journey to becoming law. Share to spread the good news.
About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ending homelessness. Every day we see the devastating impact homelessness has on people’s lives. Every year we work side by side with thousands of homeless people, to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good. Through our pioneering research into the causes and consequences of homelessness and the solutions to it, we know what it will take to end it. Together with others who share our resolve, we bring our knowledge, experience and determination to campaign for the changes that will solve the homelessness crisis once and for all. We bring together a unique volunteer effort each Christmas, to bring warmth, companionship and vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year, and offer a starting point out of homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

In a word – wow. We are so grateful to Lloyds Banking Group and each and every one of the LBG colleagues who have supported us, fundraised for us, volunteered with us over the last two years. The difference you are making to people experiencing homelessness is enormous. Thank you for helping us to build a future free from homelessness. ❤️
Two years. 30,000 colleagues. Over £3.3 million raised. Our partnership with Crisis and Simon Community Northern Ireland kicked off two years ago, with an ambitious goal: to help end homelessness for good. From hiking and baking to volunteering as Changing Lives mentors, our colleagues never fail to inspire us. We’re proud to play our part in helping individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness across the UK to access life-changing support. A huge thank you to everyone who’s given their time and energy to make a difference and help fight homelessness. #CommunitySupport #SocialGood #EndHomelessness

The last in our Jo and Joan series, Crisis Ambassador Jo Brand discusses the current homelessness crisis with former Crisis member Joan. Joan outlines how much her life has changed since she first contacted Crisis. How she's been able to start a business and buy a home, but also how she's got involved in our campaigning work - lending her voice and sharing her experiences to make the change that will prevent homelessness for other people. This is what we mean when we say Together We Will End Homelessness. Watch the full conversation on YouTube https://lnkd.in/eXjf8iui

Many staff at Crisis have personal experience of homelessness. It's one of the reasons we are all so deeply committed to ending homelessness, both for individuals and in society as whole. But when we plan new projects, we don't only rely on the experiences of colleagues to shape our work. Crisis also maintains a panel of Experts By Experience who participate in and advise on our work. They help ensure we are providing the best possible support to members and that our research and campaigning work addresses the most important issues. We're currently recruiting for 15 people with direct experience of homelessness from across Great Britain to join our existing members of the network. The project is flexible so you can focus on topics that most interest you, and it allows you chose how much time to commit. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e7CngmNT

The second in our Jo and Joan series – clips from a longer conversation between Crisis Ambassador Jo Brand and former member Joan. Here, Joan describes meeting her Crisis coach, Ed, for the first time. Ed made Joan feel heard for the first time in a long time, helped her find somewhere to stay and encouraged and guided her through the process of applying for a Crisis Changing Lives grant. It was this grant that meant Joan could realise her dream of owning a bridal business. Watch the full, inspiring conversation on our YouTube channel. https://lnkd.in/eXjf8iui

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing snippets from Jo and Joan’s conversation. To watch the full film, head to our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/eXjf8iui

Our Homelessness Monitors provide an independent analysis of the homelessness impacts of recent economic and policy developments in the UK. Since housing is a devolved issue, we produce separate publications for each nation and the Welsh Homelessness Monitor was published last week. Beth Watts-Cobbe, one of report authors, outlines some of their key findings and the worrying implications those have for people facing homelessness in Wales. Find out more: https://bit.ly/3RcayMv

UCL Boat Club complete 48-hour row-a-thon for Crisis!⭐ We know our supporters are committed, and they do a great job of using their skills and hobbies to fundraise in creative ways, but even we're blown away by the commitment to row non-stop for 48 hours! That's exactly what this week's supporter stars, the UCL Boat Club, did recently! The whole club came together to complete an amazing 48 hour row-a-thon, raising money for UCL Boat Club and Crisis. Over 100 club members took turns in 2 hour shifts, rowing through the night, come rain or shine! This year, they rowed over 1 million metres and have smashed their fundraising target, raising over £3,500! They were also joined by a local busker for the weekend who donated all the money he raised to them. Over the last 2 years, they have raised nearly £7,000 through their annual row-a-thons - what an achievement! Thank you, UCL Boat Club - you're all stars!⭐

No one should be forced to make impossible choices between rent, heating and food. ❌ Yet the UK Government has frozen housing benefits — even as rents are skyrocketing. That decision is leaving thousands of people hundreds of pounds short every month. Right now, just 2.7% of rental homes in Britain are affordable to renters on housing benefits. When the sums don’t add up, people are pushed into rent arrears and homelessness. 📢 Tell your MP this isn’t right. Email them and ask for housing benefits to be restored to match the true cost of rent: https://bit.ly/4hTubni 📝 About the data used: We've shown an example of Local Housing Allowance and rent that's representative of the picture in England, based on our work with Zoopla.
