Our recent UCL placement student, Zenia Shanze, has written a blog exploring the rise of cuckooing, a form of exploitation where criminals take over the homes of vulnerable individuals, and the recent efforts to tackle it through the new Crime and Policing Bill. Zenia joined us through UCL’s Micro-Placement Programme, spending six months working across Crest Advisory’s practices and developing this blog as part of an independent research project. 📖 Read her blog here: https://lnkd.in/e7Fy6uyi

We are Crest Advisory - the UK's only consultancy dedicated to crime and justice.
About us
We are crime and justice specialists - equal parts research, strategy and communications. Police forces, tech companies, devolved authorities and public inquiries all play a part in building a safer, more secure society. As the UK’s only consultancy with a crime and justice focus, we’re as much of a blend as the sector itself. We research the big issues or dig into an organisation’s data. We consult with them to assess their demand or understand the policies, then define a strategy. We communicate (and help them communicate) the message to the wider world. For more information please get in touch: contact@crestadvisory.com.

Crest Advisory recently published a blog unpacking the findings from our Strategic Needs Assessment on safe accommodation-based support for domestic abuse survivors in London. Commissioned by Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) and the Greater London Authority, the research examined how demand and provision have changed since 2021 - including the impact of newly commissioned services, service gaps, and pressures from COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis. 📖 Read the blog here: https://lnkd.in/exJPHcSp

The new drama Adolescence has prompted national discussion about the challenges facing children and young people, from online influence to peer dynamics and youth violence. At Crest Advisory, our research with the Youth Endowment Fund found that while social media can be a space of support, it also exposes young people to violent and sexually violent content. This content can affect their perceptions of crime, feelings of safety, and behaviour offline. Yet, children and young people are often left out of these conversations. As we consider how best to respond, whether through education, safeguarding or platform accountability, it’s essential that their voices are heard. 📖 Read more about our work in this area here: https://lnkd.in/eKrMCWZZ

In our latest blog, our Analyst Tara D. explores how the new offence fits into the wider legislative landscape, and what’s needed to make it work in practice, ensuring that victims of CCE are better identified and protected. 📖 Read the blog here: https://lnkd.in/exQNfKhN

📢 Our latest research, commissioned by the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) and the Greater London Authority, is now published. Crest Advisory is proud to have supported this work, delivering a comprehensive Strategic Needs Assessment on safe accommodation-based support for domestic abuse survivors across London. With the GLA's statutory duty to conduct an assessment, we are grateful for MOPAC's support that enabled this work to be completed to such a high standard, ensuring that policy and commissioning decisions are informed by robust evidence. Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has today announced a new £6m fund to help organisations continue their work with some of the most vulnerable people experiencing domestic abuse, ensuring victims and survivors in safe accommodation get the specialist support they need. 📌 Key insights: 🔹 To access safe accommodation based support victims and survivors need to have access to safe accommodation first. A shortage of move-on accommodation is creating bottlenecks, forcing survivors to remain in safe accommodation for longer, limiting availability for new referrals. More specialist, safe, and suitable housing is needed, especially for survivors experiencing complex disadvantages. 🔹 Safe accommodation and support are valued by survivors, with many reporting positive experiences. However, negative experiences highlight concerns about poor accommodation quality and the lack of long term mental health support. 🔹 The system for commissioning and delivering safe accommodation – and therefore safe accommodation based-support – is in parts fragmented and inefficient, fundamentally hampered by the fact that survivors from one borough are often placed out of borough. 🔹To improve partnership working, all local authority housing teams, and housing associations in London, should be encouraged to undertake Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) accreditation. DAHA results in improvements in organisational culture and partnership working between statutory and non-statutory partners 🔹 Survivors are often forced to flee while perpetrators remain in their homes, disrupting their lives and limiting long-term safety. Investing in perpetrator management and housing solutions like the Whole Housing Approach will allow survivors to stay in their homes while tackling perpetration. This research provides crucial insights for policymakers, local authorities, and frontline services working to support survivors. 📖 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eVaM2_qW
