Our Collective Energy team have been out this week surveying one of Glasgow’s prominent landmarks. Thermography provides a fascinating insight into the physics of how a building and its fabric work, allowing us to build an understanding of how and where we need to care for our built heritage. 10 points to anyone who can guess where we have been 😉

Earlier last month we were delighted to have recieved consent for the re-design of two 1960's residential towers in Craigmillar, Edinburgh for our client The City of Edinburgh Council. The project puts people at the heart of retrofit, with resident and stakeholder engagement underpinning decision making and informing an approach. The project holistically balances energy, comfort, health and placemaking. The proposal goes beyond fabric improvements to provide residents with shared facilities, including cycle storage and community spaces. The ground floor extension is wrapped in a canopy which creates a plinth for the base of the tower, echoing the existing building. Relocating the external services has revitalised the landscape and forges a connection between the two blocks. Additional to Architectural services, Collective Energy was appointed as Energy Consultant to lead the energy efficiency strategy for these landmark blocks—working closely with the wider design team to deliver real impact. Taking a data-driven approach, we used PHPP modelling to assess both existing and proposed scenarios, revealing significant energy efficiency gains across residential and non-residential spaces. Key retrofit measures like enclosing drying areas and a fabric-first approach helped optimise form factor and reduce energy demand. Backed by thermal imaging and airtightness surveys, we based our strategy on real building performance—reducing assumptions and increasing precision. Brilliant to be celebrating 5 years of our specialist division Collective Energy. Collective Energy is a low energy, low carbon design unit within Collective Architecture delivering specialist consultancy services, creating energy-efficient spaces for a regenerative, low-carbon future. We offer a comprehensive range of services for retrofit and new build projects including design and consultancy, Passivhaus design, low energy building design, and embodied carbon calculations. Our approach begins by understanding the client's needs and making sure they feel supported throughout the process. Retrofit design is followed by thorough assessments of existing buildings to identify areas for improvement, followed by the implementation of targeted energy efficiency upgrades. We support our clients in moving beyond building standards compliance to achieve sustainability certifications like Passivhaus or AECB. By prioritising excellence and sustainability, we aim to create a better future with people and planet at the centre of our approach. Core Services include: • Certified Passivhaus Designer • Low Energy Building Designer • PAS 2035 Retrofit Coordinator • Retrofit Designer • Retrofit Assessor • Net Zero Building and Estate Consultancy • Building Performance Evaluation • Circular Economy Consultancy • Thermographic analysis / Airtightness testing Read more about the team’s services and projects here on our website: https://lnkd.in/gv9RyY-Q #passivhaustrust #collectiveenergy #collectivearchitecture #Sustainability #passivhaus #LowCarbon #NetZero

We’re excited to share this film for the Dundashill Development at Platform 3, Glasgow - a project which has sustainability at its heart. Since its completion in May 2024, Dundashill, Platform 3, has not only become Scotland’s largest residential Passivhaus project, but is also a symbol of what’s possible when architecture is designed with people, place and planet in mind. The development offers 90 mid-market rent homes, all designed to dramatically reduce energy bills and carbon footprints while ensuring comfort and affordability for residents. This project represents a new era of housing in Glasgow. It’s more than just a place to live; it’s a statement about what’s possible when we take a holistic approach to design. With solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and cutting-edge Passivhaus technology, the homes are energy-efficient, sustainable, and built to last. We’re proud to see the wider Dundashill strategy already earning recognition for its sustainability and regeneration efforts, and we’re excited about the long-term impact it will have on the North Glasgow community. The newly released film take you behind the scenes of Platform 3, showcasing the award winning design, residents' stories, and the innovative features that make these homes truly unique. It’s not just housing — it’s part of a broader vision for a sustainable future in urban housing. Big well done to the Design Team | G3 Consulting Engineers Ltd.
