We’re proud to see the continued collaboration between OCPP partners delivering real impact across the South Asia region 🌏🌊 Last month, experts from JNCC, Cefas, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and Ambipar supported regional training under the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) in collaboration with South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP), strengthening marine pollution response capacity in Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Hands-on, cross-border learning like this is central to our mission — equipping coastal nations with the tools, knowledge, and networks to respond swiftly and effectively to marine pollution incidents. Great to see this captured in JNCC’s latest blog 👇 Read more here:🔗 https://lnkd.in/ezqeAW_6 #BluePlanetFund #MarinePollution #SACEP #OilSpillResponse

🚢 As shipping traffic increases globally, so does the risk of marine pollution incidents 🌊 Recently JNCC staff, along with colleagues from Cefas, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Ambipar delivered two weeks of hands-on learning to marine pollution experts from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The training, delivered under the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) in collaboration with South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP), focused on: 🔷 strategic and technical aspects of oil and chemical spill response, 🔷 operational decision making in emergency situations, 🔷 exposure to cutting-edge tools and technologies used by the UK in oil spill management, and 🔷 regional cross-border working practices. The Ocean Country Partnership Programme are proud to have supported the two-day workshop organised with the Ghana National Plastic Action Partnership (Ghana NPAP), focusing on Abandoned, Lost, and Discarded Fishing Gears (ALDFG) in Ghana. The event highlighted innovative solutions like the Fishing Net Gains project by Stand Out For Environment Restoration (SOFER) Initiative, recognised by the FAO and IMO. Thank you to all the stakeholders involved, and to our team for making this workshop a success. We remain committed to addressing the ghost gear issue and supporting sustainable ocean conservation solutions. #BluePlanetFund #GhostGear #OceanConservation

It was an exciting opportunity to partake as a speaker at the two-day workshop organized by the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) in collaboration with the Ghana National Plastic Action Partnership (Ghana NPAP). The workshop focused on Abandoned, Lost, Discarded Fishing Gears (ALDFG) in Ghana, understanding the problem in Day 1, and analysing sustainable solutions in Day 2. With samples of our products made from retrieved fishing gear wastes, the Fishing Net Gains project of Stand Out For Environment Restoration (SOFER) Initiative set the tone for discussions on solutions addressing ghost gears. This solution is recommended by the FAO and International Maritime Organization as one of the nine best global solutions addressing ghost gears. https://lnkd.in/dw4qyB-5 It was inspiring to see the representation of passion and drive by various stakeholders from Senegal, Ghana, Cefas, etc, to contain the ghost gear menace. If you are interested in understanding the ghost gear issue in Africa, kindly consult this publication via this link https://lnkd.in/d5Trbw4x I would like to thank Peter Randall and Charlotte Brill of Cefas, Kwame Asamoa Mensa-Yawson of Ghana NPAP , and others behind the scene who made the workshop a success.

We recognise that well-managed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are not only vital for ocean health, but also for the livelihoods of coastal communities who depend on marine ecosystems for food, income, and a sustainable future. The Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) recently supported a workshop in collaboration with BIOFUND, Wildlife Conservation Society-Moçambique, and Fundação Likhulu, focusing on integrating sustainable financing into MPA management planning. By enhancing knowledge and coordination, this work contributes directly to safeguarding livelihoods, boosting climate resilience, and ensuring long-term benefits for people and nature. #BluePlanetFund #MarineConservation

🌊 Strengthening Marine Protected Areas in Mozambique The Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) is proud to support Mozambique's efforts in enhancing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) management planning. Recently, we collaborated with BIOFUND, Wildlife Conservation Society-Moçambique, and Fundação Likhulu to deliver a workshop on integrating sustainable financing into MPA management planning. Funded by the UK’s Blue Planet Fund via OCPP, this initiative brought together vital Mozambique institutions, including departments within the Ministério da Agricultura, Ambiente e Pescas to enhance knowledge, experience, and coordination on #MPAs. The main objective of the workshop was to provide knowledge exchange opportunities for relevant stakeholders regarding the sustainable financing of MPAs, including the assessment of current budgets (and their integration into MPA management plans), identifying potential improvements in efficiency, and discussing available financing mechanisms in Mozambique.
