The widespread use of #hydrogen in manufacturing processes could significantly transform the steel industry’s carbon emissions. The wholesale electrification of #steel production currently poses a significant challenge due to the high temperature demands involved, and the changes needed to existing processes. With widespread electrification of all parts of the steel production process currently unfeasible, the industry needs a viable alternative to #decarbonise and reach Net Zero by 2050. LIBERTY Steel Group is actively driving change and trialling innovative hydrogen solutions to decarbonise their operations and reach their target of carbon neutrality by 2030. We are proud to be working with LIBERTY Steel Group and other industry leaders through #MadewithHydrogen, a consortium of organisations connected by our support of the use of hydrogen as a low carbon energy solution. Yesterday we launched our first ever Centre for Warmth built from the ground-up in Liverpool. Former Liverpool captain, Jamie Carragher, Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, Emily Spurrell, and actor James Nelson-Joyce were all in attendance to officially open the Kirkdale St Lawrence Centre for Warmth. Joining our 350 other centres across the UK, the facility forms part of a new £500,000 partnership with The Social Brokers. The Kirkdale St Lawrence Centre for Warmth will provide a safe space for hundreds of local residents looking for support, whether that is for income and benefits guidance, energy efficiency advice, or home safety tips, such as installing a carbon monoxide alarm. See for yourself the difference the Centre is going to make 👇

🎉Last night, we won Company Of The Year at Hydrogen UK’s annual awards. This was the CEO’s award, so it was chosen by Hydrogen UK’s boss, Clare Jackson. We were recognised for our commitment to delivering important projects despite a challenging landscape, and the award was collected by Martin Shannon, Kelly Manders, Elizabeth Drabble. The theme of the evening was outlined by the esteemed Jane Toogood OBE FRSC, appointed as the UK government’s Hydrogen Council. Jane described that to succeed in navigating the future energy scenarios, the hydrogen sector needs to embrace collaboration, dedication, and resilience. They noted how far Cadent had managed to progress both our Hynet and East Coast Hydrogen cohort projects and how important they are in the whole system's energy future.

Special thanks to GRDF and Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S) group of companies for hosting us and putting on such a brilliant event. Our Director of Strategy, Dr Angela Needle FEI, has reflected on some of what we learned from the time spent with those already implementing biomethane as part of a whole systems energy mix.

🧑🤝🧑Last week we exhibited at the IGEM - Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers Gas Utilisation conference alongside AT Prevention (ATP), who showcased their new Anti-Theft Device. Their innovation is a simple, retro fitted device that acts as a deterrent to gas meter tampering, suitable for both domestic and industrial meters, which can be installed by anyone. ❗Critically, it provides a physical deterrent to gas theft , to minimise the safety risks associated with this. Steve Barrett of ATP commented: “I thought the response to the anti-theft device at the conference was very favourable as has been the case with everyone we have demonstrated this to. It was great to share it with engineers and we will continue to lobby the industry to adopt it as a measure to help deter and prevent tampering cases.” For more information on gas theft and our campaign with Stay Energy Safe, visit cadentgas.com/gastheft

Congratulations to our Director of Safety, Health and Environment, David Garner who has been awarded the title of Fellow by IGEM - Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers 👏
Congratulations to David Garner for being awarded the title of Fellow 🎉 David, who is now Director of Safety, Health and Environment at Cadent Gas Limited, began his career undertaking a National Diploma in Engineering. Since then he has made great strides and contributions to the advancement and safety of the industry. Alongside his day-to-day responsibilities he has collaborated with colleagues around the industry by being a member of IGEM's Technical Standard Panels and chairing cross gas distribution network working groups. He has also shared the learnings from his work by presenting at two Gas Utilisation Conferences. David's standout approach resulted in his peers nominating him for the leadership award at the Gas Industry Awards 2024, with him being shortlisted as a finalist. On what being awarded the Fellowship means to him David said: “In many ways the gas industry saved me in the late 1990s, providing me with direction, purpose and belonging, I met my wife through the industry, and we have two wonderful children together. "I absolutely believe in the work of the institution, and am passionate about supporting IGEM, and giving something back. I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to apply for Fellowship, and feel it provides me with a stronger connection to the institution, and hopefully a platform for continuing to champion our industry.” Find out more about IGEM's Fellow grade at: https://lnkd.in/e442W6Zq #IGEM #IGEMMembership #WeAreIGEM | Engineering Council

Today, we are proud to launch our 350th Centre for Warmth. Since the programme began in 2021, we have supported hundreds of thousands of residents across our network where they need help the most. Philip Burrows, our Head of Customer Vulnerability and Social Purpose said: “Today’s milestone announcement marks a poignant day of reflection for Cadent. We are, of course, incredibly proud of the Centre for Warmth programme and all it has achieved. It has helped us reach those most vulnerable in the communities in which we serve, providing much-needed help. “However, the programme’s growth should serve as a reminder of how many people are struggling to live independently and safely in their own homes. Throughout the cost-of-living crisis, we have been committed to helping our customers living in the most vulnerable situations and will continue supporting such fantastic causes with our funding from Ofgem.” See the impact of our programme 👇

We held our first virtual sustainability awards event - Cadent Congratulates - to celebrate the exceptional achievements and positive impact our supply partners are making across our sustainability strategy. Bringing together our partners was a great opportunity to learn, network and share our sustainability and social value ambitions and what this means for our supply chain. An important element of our RIIO-3 plan, this event ensures that we continue to be a force for good in the communities we serve. We're proud to be able to celebrate our incredible suppliers and the vital role they play in helping us shape a sustainable future. We heard from some truly inspiring voices and engaged in breakout sessions about innovative solutions to build resilient partnerships that can power long-term change, creating easier warmth, fairer opportunities and a greener society.
