C40 is a network of nearly 100 world-leading cities taking urgent action to confront the climate crisis. 🌳 🚴♀️
About us
C40 is a network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities who are working to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis and create a future where everyone, everywhere, can thrive. Mayors of C40 cities are committed to using a science-based and people-focused approach to help the world limit global heating to 1.5°C and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities. Through a Global Green New Deal, mayors are working alongside a broad coalition of representatives from labour, business, the youth climate movement and civil society to go further and faster than ever before. The current co-chairs of C40 are Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the Board. C40’s work is made possible by our three strategic funders: Bloomberg Philanthropies, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and Realdania.

🇧🇷 Brazil is showing the world how cities can shape the future of climate action. From mitigation to adaptation, powered by data and AI, 50 Brazilian cities will implement 100 transformative climate actions in partnership with Brazil’s federal government. With support from C40 Cities, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), on the #CHAMP initiative, this project demonstrates how national-local collaboration can drive real climate impact. From London to Bogota, mayors and city leaders are taking bold steps to curb toxic air and protect the health of residents and communities. Deputy Mayor Mete Coban MBE visited the Clean Air Cities Corridor exhibit at the Global Conference Air Pollution and Health in Cartagena alongside civil society leaders to celebrate clean air wins and positive climate action including: 🇬🇧 Londoners are now breathing cleaner air due to the capital’s Clean Air Zone, which has reduced roadside NO2 by over half in central London. 🇨🇴 Bogotá is deploying a new 100% electric bus fleet, improving air quality for 35,000+ residents. 🇮🇩 Jakarta has doubled its public transit network in five years and cut commuter costs from 30% to 10% of average income. 🇪🇸 Barcelona has improved air quality near 200+ schools and achieved the cleanest air since records started. #ItsInTheAir Clean Air Fund Our Kids' Climate Global Climate and Health Alliance Bloomberg Philanthropies 📸 Photo credit: Tico 3palacios
