We are proud to announce that RABI has been chosen as our Charity of the Year for 2025/26. This partnership will see us supporting the vital work of RABI, a national charity dedicated to providing financial support, guidance, and mental health services to the farming community across England and Wales. What does the demolition of Norwich's Anglia Square mean for the Commercial sector? Norwich City Council has secured government funding to acquire Anglia Square, an ageing, former shopping centre to be repurposed for new homes, commercial and retail space. It follows a growing trend of local authorities purchasing sites such as old, disused shopping centres to utilise them with allotted funds (and not the public’s money from council tax etc) to help address the UK’s housing crisis whilst regenerating areas of decline too. • We are delighted to announce that this year, through our fundraising efforts and the incredible generosity of our employees, clients, friends and family, we have raised an incredible £38,664.38 for Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT) in memory of our colleague and friend, Danielle Spauls.   The funds we have raised will go directly to ACT, helping to support life-saving treatment, research, and patient care at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, ensuring that other families receive the same level of compassionate care that Dannii and her family experienced.   Thank you to our clients, family, and friends for your incredible support in helping us fundraise for ACT.   For more information on ACT and how you can support their work, please visit: https://lnkd.in/eq-gJZbr   For more information on our fundraising this year, please visit: https://lnkd.in/eiXsYmhD

The Planning & Infrastructure Bill: What are the details? After the Bill received its second reading in the House of Commons recently, our Planners Simon Tindle and Matthew Rooke, based in our St Neots and Norwich offices, have looked at it give their views. The Bill is part of Labour's 'Plan to Change' pledge to deliver 1.5 million homes and support the delivery of its clean growth and energy mission by 2030 as well as legislate for the updated National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), published in December. One of the key aspects of the Bill is the reform of bureaucratic hurdles that have historically slowed down the approval of projects. However, also in the detail of the Bill is a potentially significant concern for landowners with the proposed removal of ‘hope value’ for the assessment of any compensation paid where a Local Authority acquires land without the consent of the owner (i.e: Compulsory Purchase – CPO.) You can read more on our website here: https://bit.ly/423PM70 Alternatively, for guidance on planning matters, please contact Simon Tindle in our St Neots office on 01480 479078 or Matthew Rooke in Norwich on 01603 629871.

Defra shock the industry again. Late yesterday Defra announced without warning or consultation the immediate closure of SFI 2024 for any new applications. - Existing agreements will be honoured - Agreements that have been submitted should be processed - No new applications will be accepted - Defra plans to review the scheme and have quoted “there will be a new and improved SFI on offer” in the future. Justifiably there is great concern in the industry and Farmers are urged to contact their local Brown&Co office to get a greater understanding of the potential impact on your business.
