Confidence grows from preparation and self-belief. Before your interview, remind yourself of your accomplishments and how far you've come. Reframe nervousness as excitement—it's a sign you care about the opportunity. The panel wants to see your potential, so let that come through. #dclinpsy #aspiringclinicalpsych #interview #doctorate

Struggling to structure your answers in DClinPsy interviews? The STARR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result, Reflection—helps you showcase your experience with clarity and depth. Here's an example answer to the question: Tell us about a time in your clinical experience when things went well and why. Situation – While working as an Assistant Psychologist in a CAMHS service, I supported a young person experiencing high anxiety and school avoidance. They struggled to engage in previous interventions, and their parents felt discouraged. Task – My role was to build trust, deliver psychological interventions, and support the family in implementing strategies to improve school attendance and emotional well-being. Action – I used a flexible, person-centred approach, incorporating their interests into sessions and adapting CBT techniques (such as…) to be more interactive. I collaborated with parents and school staff (by…), ensuring a consistent, supportive environment. I also sought supervision to refine my approach (towards… for example…), ensuring it remained evidence-based and developmentally appropriate. Result – Over time, the young person's anxiety reduced, and they gradually increased their school attendance. Their confidence grew, and their parents reported feeling more empowered in supporting them. The school also noted improved engagement in lessons. Reflection – This experience reinforced the importance of collaboration, adapting interventions to individual needs, and using supervision effectively. It also highlighted the impact of small, consistent steps in building confidence and autonomy, aligning with core values of compassion, empowerment, and evidence-based practice. #DClinPsyInterviews #STARRMethod #PsychologyCareers #InterviewPrep"
