Happy International Women’s Day! Diversity and inclusion are an integral part of life at Arenko, and we were delighted to get together to celebrate the achievements of women. This year’s International Women's Day theme is Accelerate Action, and it sends a powerful message - change starts with action. It’s a call to move beyond words and drive meaningful progress in our workplaces, communities, and networks. One way to take action is uplifting women in our local community. This year, we are supporting Luminary Bakery, whose mission is to empower marginalized women in London, helping them build a brighter future and break the cycle of poverty, violence, and disadvantage. #embraceequity #openandinclusive

CTO @ Arenko Group | Energy Storage, Renewable Energy

It may seem a strange thing to say but we need to fail fast.... Earlier this week I had the honour to represent Arenko alongside technology innovators in a round table with Michael Shanks, Ofgem and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. We were discussing barriers to get innovation into the energy networks of the UK. Alongside my co-spokesperson Tony Griffiths we represented views from a range of companies across energy infrastructure, hardware and software solutions working technology solutions over a range fo Technology Readiness Level (TRL) stages. I was impressed with Mister Shanks' approach. First there is a recognition of the scale of the problem and need for innovation in order to move at pace. How legacy systems and approaches will not deliver on our energy system targets through #cleanpower2030 and beyond to hitting our #CarbonTargets in 2050 to ultimately delivering a sustainable: clean, secure and affordable energy system for all. He also has a clear bias for action and dislike for meetings, working groups or forums that deliver more hot air than anything else*. In a 1hr meeting where we covered a lot he was focused on problems to solutions and actionable next steps which was very refreshing. A selection of 3 interesting Problem/Solutions sets discussed: Problem: Cultural clash: Network companies have a low to zero tolerance for risk: the lights must stay on. Innovation by it's very nature has to embrace risk in order to accelerate learnings to 'yes this works' or 'no this does not work but we now know what does'. Solution: Innovation 'task and deliver' groups to be set up addressing innovation bottlenecks. Groups to include dedicated innovation humans in the network companies alongside industry and regulation do-ers and decision makers Problem: Clash between pace of innovation (quick), duration of solutions needed to put in place (long: we need to keep an eye on 2050) and the existing funding cycles (5 years). Solution: On going review of RIIO process and driving direct and easy to access to funding to address funding gaps such as 'valley of death' for technology in early TRL. Problem: Making the most of learnings from innovation including from other countries. Often innovation is side of desk workstreams: Solution: Dedicated innovation resource driving projects with a requirement for reporting and data sharing and transparency of results so that even failed innovation projects are springboards for future success. I'm looking froward to seeing these and other action points put into play to continue UK's position as leaders in energy system innovation (thank you Matthew Billson for making the point). Long may we continue to solve this challenge for our generation and generate solutions and IP that is exportable to global power systems that are all facing the same challenges. * reducing hot air is the single most important part of a future sustainable energy system on so many levels.... #slowentropyforsustainability!

As the Arenko Employee Spotlight shines for the final time this year, we are speaking to Jordan Simmons, one of our Infrastructure Engineers. Jordan is responsible for making sure that all components of Arenko’s complex networking infrastructure work together to create a seamless and secure environment. Jordan’s favourite Arenko value is innovation: “It’s very clear that everything at Arenko is driven by innovation. Everyone puts their best effort forward and this energy motivates me to do the same.” However, nobody creates a great product alone, and Jordan is very impressed with the level of collaboration he sees across the business: “Every project and idea received the spotlight it deserved; the true markings of an open and inclusive atmosphere where innovation is core to each and every individual.” As for his favourite aspect of working here, Jordan noted that people are always keen to learn and ask questions. At Arenko, there truly are “no bad questions”, which is especially helpful for new starters. As Jordan explained, “this is something I'm incredibly grateful for as someone stepping into this industry for the first time and will endeavour to pay this forward during the rest of my time at Arenko”. For the late autumn Employee Spotlight, we have invited Jamie Lang, a Project Engineer in our hardworking hardware team. Jamie works on the design, development and installation of the Iris box, which is essential to Arenko’s ability to control and dispatch assets. Jamie puts sustainability high on his priorities list, and he shares this value with the rest of the Arenko team: “Part of the reason I moved to Arenko was to pursue a career within an industry that aids the renewable energy transition. It is important to me that the company I work for is trying to operate as sustainably as possible, and at Arenko, sustainability has always been championed across the business.” Jamie’s favourite aspect of working at Arenko is how dedicated and driven his colleagues are, while at the same time keeping a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. As he put it, “I feel like there is genuine ambition from everyone at the company to push forward the energy transition through innovation. The team here are very dedicated and complete remarkable achievements in short time scales regularly.” If you also champion sustainability in your personal and professional life, and would like to explore new opportunities, take a look at our current open positions below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eHRYGBTK #team #employeespotlight #teamappreciation #values #sustainability #greentechnology
