How has China framed Admiral Sir Tony Radakin's visit to Beijing? While UK media coverage downplayed the visit’s strategic implications, Chinese state media presented a slightly different narrative: one of mutual interest, and subtle recalibration. In our latest issue of Adarga Briefly, we explore how China swiftly folded Radakin’s visit into its broader narrative - subtly casting the UK not as a reluctant actor, but as a pragmatic power navigating a new geopolitical reality. This isn’t about what was said, but how it was framed, from synchronised coverage of parallel economic and military diplomacy to the omission of contentious issues. Adarga Briefly is developed via a powerful combination of geopolitical analysts and our specialist AI software. Much of this week's assessment was done of Chinese language articles, made easy with Adarga's automated translation and synthesis capabilities for better, faster data analysis. ➤ Read the latest issue here: https://lnkd.in/egtBi2-v ➤ Sign up to receive Adarga Briefly directly to your inbox: https://lnkd.in/gdYG3xpn

Adarga reposted this
Very honoured to be asked to speak to the Cadets at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst about our recent report on the vulnerability of UK military partnerships around the world, co-written with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change's Daniel Sleat and Melanie G. and also William Matthews. Thanks Edward Flint for the invitation. I had some very good questions - glad to see the new generation of Army officers is thinking hard about the strategic future of the UK. https://lnkd.in/gDRBNsfA

While everyone was focussed on Trump's tariffs last week, other significant geopolitical developments were unfolding... In this week's issue of Adarga Briefly, we assess: ➡️ Beijing's actions which led Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison Holdings to postpone the sale of its two strategic ports in Panama to a U.S. firm. ➡️ Why Beijing has a strategic dilemma on its hands as to whether to approve the sale or not. ➡️ The strategic significance of a Danish shipping company having acquired the Panama Canal Railway Company. Adarga Briefly is developed via a powerful combination of geopolitical analysts and specialist AI software which is designed to accelerate research and reporting. 13.2 million global articles and papers were scanned to develop this issue. ➤ Read the latest issue here: https://lnkd.in/e5ZRGSA4 ➤ Sign up to receive Adarga Briefly directly to your inbox: https://lnkd.in/gdYG3xpn

Donald Trump promised to take on China - and he’s delivering. With tariffs as high as 54% on Chinese imports, his administration is doubling down on economic confrontation. But while protecting American jobs plays well domestically, hitting key allies like Japan, South Korea, and the UK risks weakening the very partnerships the U.S. needs to counter Beijing. Strategic competition with China requires strength - not just in tariffs, but in alliances. Could punishing friends end up playing right into China’s hands? Adarga's VP geopolitics Sam Olsen discusses this in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/eGRPuZ4z #geopolitics #tariffs #tradewar

Why is ‘software-defined’ warfare vital for maintaining our military advantage? The Atlantic Council's Commission on Software-Defined Warfare has launched a new report with recommendations on how the US DoD can chart a path towards a more agile, resilient, capable and future-ready defence infrastructure and force posture. Being anchored to a defence acquisition system ill-suited to the rapid tempo of modern technological innovation is undermining the nation’s ability to effectively deter near-peer adversaries in the short term and jeopardises its capacity to prevail in a major conflict. This report places increased urgency on the rapid adoption of a software-centric, hardware-enabled approach to warfighting. An approach that centres around the effective integration and delivery of cutting-edge technology, and leading interoperable software into legacy and future defence systems. The recommendations outlined within propose actionable steps to shape software investments, build a cohesive digital ecosystem, modernise software development practices, and cultivate a skilled and sustainable workforce. Its contents are by no means only applicable to the US. The UK’s ability to innovate faster and more effectively than its rivals is now the defining foundation on which contemporary military power rests. Establishing a truly software-defined UK Ministry of Defence in today's global security environment needs to be the utmost priority for UK defence. Rachel Reeve's recent pledge to turn Britain into a defence industrial superpower and significantly increase spend on tech innovation was a welcome one. But we need to put sustained effort into addressing the systemic challenges holding the UK back from deploying this technology at pace, implementing bolder plans to ensure the nation can maintain its leading position on the global stage. We urge UK defence to take stock of the actionable steps provided in this report and move with urgency to truly modernise its defence capability. Adarga CEO Robert Bassett Cross had the privilege of contributing to this report alongside peers such as Second Front's Tyler Sweatt and Lieutenant General Michael Groen. A pleasure to work with Stephen Rodriguez and team. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ezZ2AqRt #software #military #defence #tech

What do Ted Lasso and AI have in common? According to Adarga's Marc Brooker, Lasso's wise words "be curious, not judgemental" are just as applicable to the use of AI as they are to football. In an insightful discussion at DPRTE, Marc and ADS Group Ltd's Alistair L. discussed how AI implementation isn't a one-time-switch - it's a journey of learning, adapting, and evolving. Instead of fearing AI, we should be asking "how can this technology enhance our work?", "where can it add value?", "what are its limitations?" The businesses that are thriving are those that are willing to explore AI's possibilities with an open-mind. And with increased pressure to optimise operations, reduce costs, and deliver better experiences, understanding how to identify, implement, and measure AI-enhanced processes has become a critical capability for forward-thinking organisations. If you're interested in understanding how Adarga customers like Strategic Command, 14 North Strategies, and European Leadership Network (ELN) are successfully implementing AI tools into their processes to achieve greater efficiency, higher productivity, and better outputs, read our case studies here or get in touch: https://lnkd.in/eW4Cqt4S #defence #AI #tech #innovation

"In modern warfare, the value of AI isn't in the cloud or the edge - it's in the mission advantage it delivers when it connects both." Adarga's Seb Matthews delivered a thought-provoking talk at the #oraclecloudworld Defence Tech Summit last week on the importance of AI, core to edge. A proud Oracle partner, it was a pleasure to see such an engaged and vibrant community brought together to discuss the future of UK defence. We were joined by a brilliant line-up of speakers including Gen Sir Richard Barrons, Dan Westley, James Gayner MBE, Chris Lombardi and others - with demos from Help for Heroes and Shield Reply. All excellently organised by Gareth Turner. Find out more about Oracle and Adarga's AI-powered defence and security solutions here: https://lnkd.in/eKWUs2Ch #AI #defence #military #tech #innovation
