What daily actions could you change to improve your health and wellbeing? Next month, the The Open University and Age UK are challenging everyone to Take Five to Age Well 💪 Their research shows that our ageing rate is largely determined by environmental factors until the age of 80, when genetics are more impactful. Positive attitudes, small lifestyle changes and keeping active can all lead to longer, happier lives ❤️ From May 1, make commitments in these five key areas: Eat, Drink, Move, Connect and Engage, and Think to take part in the national challenge. It’s International Day of Sport for Development and Peace this Sunday, with 2025’s theme all about Levelling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion. This year, IDSDP is aiming to challenge stereotypes, bridge barriers and transcend boundaries. Inclusion is at the core of what we do and here are just some of our case studies that have helped give underrepresented groups access to sport and physical activity across Sussex. 🎉 This Sunday coming is the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – a chance to reflect on the power of sport to bring people together and create real change. At Active Sussex, tackling inequality is a part of all that we do. Whether it’s through our work in schools, with community groups, or in partnership with local organisations, we are committed to making physical activity accessible for everyone – regardless of background or ability. 🧐 If you’re a local sport provider, it’s a great time to explore how your work aligns with the Sport for Development Coalition’s #OpenGoal framework and discover how small actions can create long-term change. 👉 Find out more about the day and what you can do to support it at: https://ow.ly/1pFh50Vt2Nk #GettingSussexMoving #Sussex #ActivePartnerships #SportWelfare #Sport #Development #Peace #Inclusion

🏆 The Quality Start Award recognises and rewards schools for their commitment to PE, school sport, and promoting healthy, active lifestyles among Key Stage 1 students. Schools self-assess against set criteria and can achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum or Platinum Plus status. Applications are then validated by the Quality Start team, with successful schools receiving a certificate, logo and glass plaque, which will be valid for two years. 🧐 This is a chance to reflect on your school’s PE curriculum, celebrate your achievements, and demonstrate the value of PE and sport in the early years – a crucial stage for building confidence, enjoyment, and lifelong habits around physical activity. Applications for the 2024–25 academic year open on April 21 and close on May 16. 👉 Find out more and apply: https://ow.ly/2ZVu50Vt2fA #GettingSussexMoving #Sussex #ActivePartnerships #SportWelfare #Awards #PhysicalEducation #Sport

🧠 April is Stress Awareness Month – an opportunity for the sport and physical activity sector to reflect not only on our own mental wellbeing, but also how we support those taking part in our sessions. Physical activity and movement can play a powerful role in managing stress. As coaches, instructors and activity providers, the small moments we create and the services we provide can have a lasting impact. 👏 Let’s keep working together to build environments where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to move in a way that works for them. #GettingSussexMoving #Sussex #ActivePartnerships #SportWelfare #StressAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #Sport

Earlier this month, girls from eight Brighton & Hove schools came together for the second This Girl Can Be Inspired event 💪 Held at the 1st Central County Ground, the day gave students space to speak openly about the barriers they face in getting active such as PE kit, confidence, and menstrual health. Former international rugby player Manjinder Nagra shared her story, encouraging girls to back themselves and find their place in sport 🏉 Workshops throughout the day provided practical ideas for schools and staff to better support girls in PE, sport and physical activity and created opportunities for youth voice to shape future action. For those working in education, sport or community activity, this is a clear reminder of how vital it is to listen, adapt, and act on what girls are telling us. 👉 Read more about the day and what’s next for girls’ sport in Brighton & Hove at: https://ow.ly/5way50VqhRO #GettingSussexMoving #Sussex #ActivePartnerships #SportWelfare #Sport #Inclusion #WomenInSport
