Exciting news ahead of #WorldMalariaDay! Today, Uganda becomes the 19th African Union member state to introduce the #R21/Matrix-M #malaria vaccine into routine immunisation. Launched in Apac District, which has the highest number of mosquito bites per person globally, this marks the largest #malaria vaccine roll-out to date in both geographic scope and population targeted. The vaccine will reach 1.1 million children under two in 105 high and moderate transmission districts across Uganda. This initiative is a game-changer in preventing severe malaria, reducing the financial burden on families (saving approx. UGX 15,000/ $4 per case), and alleviating Uganda's malaria burden, which remains a leading cause of illness and death. Am glad that as a U Reporter, I have been able to drive postive change in the societies that I have been to. You can join U Report by texting the word join to 8500. UNICEF Uganda

A historic milestone for Uganda and the world! Uganda is leading the largest #malaria vaccine rollout globally, making it the 14th antigen in the country’s Routine Immunization Program. This is a game-changer in the fight against malaria, which remains one of the leading causes of illness and death among children. UNICEF is proud to support Ministry of Health-Uganda in ensuring every eligible child receives this life-saving vaccine. Alongside other malaria prevention efforts, this rollout will help protect more children and save countless lives. This is a step closer to a malaria-free future, #ForEveryChild 💙💉 #InvestInUGchildren #VaccinesWork #MalariaVaccineUG #EndMalaria
