The School Of St Jude
Primary and Secondary Education
The School of St Jude is a pioneering leader in charitable education within Africa.
About us
Founded in 2002, The School of St Jude started with three students and a big dream to bring the opportunity of a 100% free, quality education to children living in poverty. Today, St Jude’s is a pioneering leader in charitable education within Africa. We educate 1,800 students across a primary and two secondary campuses and achieve among the top results in the country. We support 100s of graduates through higher education and provide 10,000 Tanzanians with quality teaching each year. Here at St Jude’s we encourage Tanzanian youth to do more than just succeed – we empower them to transform their community, challenge the status quo and find solutions for the 45 million Tanzanians living in poverty. We are more than a school, but a model to overcome extreme poverty. The result speak for themselves, having seen 80% of our graduates’ families overcome extreme poverty by the time they graduate. This is just the beginning.

It takes a village to make Scholarship Application Day a success! Behind the scenes, our incredible staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure everything runs smoothly from coordinating logistics to guiding students through every step of the process. It truly takes a committed team to make this day happen! And here’s why… Scholarship Application Day is the first step in our scholarship application process. This is when we open our gates to students eager to apply for a scholarship at St Jude’s. We have three application days to match the three key stages of the Tanzanian education system. Last weekend, we welcomed hundreds of students from Arusha and surrounding regions for our Form 5 Scholarship Application Day. These students are applying to join St Jude’s for the final two years of secondary school, Forms 5 and 6. The exam rooms were packed, and you could feel the energy and determination of the students as they tackled their assessments, all hoping to earn a life-changing scholarship at St Jude’s. But the journey doesn’t end here. Next, our team will hit the dusty roads in the coming weeks to travel far and wide for house checks on shortlisted candidates. Join us in supporting the next generation of Tanzanian leaders by becoming a sponsor. Visit our website today: schoolofstjude.org

AN EXTRAORDINARY CONTRIBUTION, GEMMA 23 years ago Gemma Sisia made the very courageous decision to start a free private school in Tanzania, with just 3 students. Today, The School Of St Jude educates 1800 underprivileged students who would never have received a full high school education otherwise. Last night I heard her is story of incredible determination, optimism and resilience, for the second time. I have also interviewed her for The Caring CEO Podcast - and that interview will be published tomorrow. Growing up on a large NSW farm with her parents and 6 brothers prepared her to dream big, be resourceful and have a strong work ethic Gemma and her team believe that you fight poverty through education. It is hard to argue when 97% of St Jude’s graduates progress to university. She also shares that ¾ of Tanzanians live on less than $4.80/day - but being able to speak English increases your income expectation by 400% (because it is the language of business). At St Jude’s they encourage students to do more than just succeed – they encourage them to transform their community, challenge the status quo and find solutions for the 45 million Tanzanians living in poverty. They are more than a school, but a model to overcome extreme poverty. The result speak for themselves, having seen 80% of our graduates’ families overcome extreme poverty by the time they graduate. Gemma is a true inspiration, and I encourage you to listen to her incredible story. You can sponsor a student for $270 per month. The night was organised by Belrose Davidson Rotary, Congratulations Colin Blackhall #resilience #leadership #culture

Shining a light on blood donor heroes at St Jude’s! We are back at it again! Last week, our staff at the Head Office and Sisia Campus and students at St Jude’s Girls’ Secondary School rolled up their sleeves for a life-saving activity, donating blood to replenish the blood banks of Arusha’s local hospitals to help patients in need of transfusion. Kindness is one of our core values here at St Jude's, and this ongoing initiative is a testament to our commitment to helping those in need. This is just the beginning; our Smith Campus staff and students will soon have their chance to take part. To celebrate our blood donor heroes, they were all served with a special lunch after the event. A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated and helped make a difference. Your generosity is truly inspiring! You, too, can join us by helping spread the word about St Jude's, we have handy resources on our website to get you started, click the link below. schoolofstjude.org

Did you catch Gemma’s interview with SBS Australia today? She shared the inspiring story behind the inception of The School of St Jude! “I thought, wouldn't it be great to build a good quality private school that didn't charge school fees — so kids wouldn't have to leave if their parents passed away or struggled to pay,” she tells SBS. "Around four kids per month lose a parent at St Jude, but because they're on full scholarships, none of them have to leave.” You can read the full story via the link below! Want to hear more? Gemma is speaking about The School of St Jude in Victoria for the rest of the week as part of our #2025AUTour. Don’t miss the chance to hear all these stories firsthand!
