Genetic twists reveal new insights for precision medicine 🧬 Researchers at A*STAR Genome Institute of Singapore (A*STAR GIS) discovered unique genetic variations in the CYP2D6 enzyme among Singapore's multi-ethnic population. CYP2D6 is a crucial enzyme involved in the metabolism of many commonly prescribed drugs, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, beta-blockers, and opioids12. 🌟Exciting Breakthrough in Precision Medicine!🌟 Researchers from A*STAR Genome Institute of Singapore (A*STAR GIS), along with collaborators from South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and India, have created the world’s first Asian Immune Diversity Atlas (AIDA)! This groundbreaking study, published in Cell, profiles the immune systems of diverse Asian populations at single-cell resolution. 🧬 Key Highlights🔎: 🧬1.2 million immune cells analyzed from 625 healthy donors across five Asian countries. 🧬Self-reported ethnicity and genetic ancestry each contribute almost as much as sex to variation in cell type proportions. 🧬Aging processes and sex differences can vary substantially across self-reported ethnicities. 🧬Several cell states and cell type-specific gene expression levels were 2- to 8-fold enriched in certain populations, with implications for population-specific disease risk.
