Every day, we breathe in the air around us. However, due to the presence of air pollutants, the very air we breathe can pose a danger to our health. In 2021 alone, air pollution was responsible for 8.1 million deaths, according to the latest State of Global Air report. On this International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Clean Air Asia is launching its new air quality explainer video to deepen the public’s understanding of air pollution and its harmful effects. As we rally behind the call to invest in #CleanAirNow, we believe that only by fostering broad awareness can we ensure that clean air receives the urgent investment it needs. #WorldCleanAirDay Watch here:

Cities are changing, but when roads prioritise cars over people, getting around can often feel unsafe and unhealthy, especially for marginalised communities, including people with disabilities. The Inclusive Low-Carbon Transport Programme, supported by UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions), UK in Indonesia - British Embassy Jakarta and delivered by the York consortium, is tackling this challenge. By promoting low-carbon solutions, the programme supports climate action while making public transport more inclusive and accessible. With the groundwork in place, it’s time to accelerate Indonesia’s shift towards low-carbon transport! Partners: University of York, SEI – Stockholm Environment Institute, PUSTRAL Universitas Gadjah Mada , Clean Air Asia, and UN Environment Programme Asia and the Pacific #LowCarbonTransport #InclusiveMobility #SustainableCities #ClimateAction #UKPACT #UrbanMobility #TransportForAll #NetZero #UKIndonesia #GreatPartnership #ClimateChange #SDGs

#UpdateFromTheFrontlines: ICSC joined fellow members of civil society, government representatives, the public and other stakeholders to discuss the intersections of #AirQuality and energy at the 2025 Quezon City Clean Air Public Forum, held April 8, 2025 in Quezon City. Jointly held by Clean Air Asia and the Quezon City local government, the event aims to encourage discussion and capacity-building among QCitizens and other relevant stakeholders through sharing information on the sources and impacts of #AirPollution, as well as actionable solutions by the government, institutions, stakeholders and individuals to mitigate it. Speaking at the panel session “Sustainable Energy Solutions for Small-Scale Businesses”, ICSC Partnerships and Advocacy Advisor Francis Joseph Dela Cruz discussed the energy challenges faced by small businesses in the country, and the #CleanEnergy solutions that can contribute to better energy efficiency and reduced air pollution. Among dela Cruz’s key topics were the volatility of global market prices affecting local electricity pricing, and the role of indigenous, abundant, and reliable #RenewableEnergy sources in improving #EnergySecurity and reducing costs while improving air quality and public health.

On February 26 to 28, 2025, approximately 146 attendees from government agencies, non-government organizations, and the private sector gathered in Jakarta, Indonesia, for the Regional Knowledge Sharing Event: Strategies, Partnerships, and Pathways to Actions. The event aimed to foster knowledge exchange, identify challenges, and explore practical solutions to accelerate low-emission mobility. Hosted by the University of York’s SEI – Stockholm Environment Institute Institute in partnership with Clean Air Asia, Pusat Studi Transportasi dan Logistik (PUSTRAL) – Universitas Gadjah Mada , and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the event provided a platform for collaboration and practical action. Each day focused on a specific theme (i.e. Low Emission Mobility, Leaving No One Behind, and Financing for the Future and Moving to Implementation), featuring multiple sessions that included presentations on successful strategies and case studies. Panel discussions following each session facilitated insightful exchange of information between experts and government officials, driving meaningful dialogue on sustainable mobility solutions.
