About us
We’ve been helping New Zealanders find the right financial solutions to suit their lives since 1861. We first opened back then as The Bank of New South Wales, and then changed our name to Westpac in 1982. Along the way we’ve grown stronger by joining forces with the Commercial Bank of Australia and Trust Bank – to become Westpac New Zealand Limited. We bank all sorts of people and businesses – from young children, to first home-owners through to big corporates and the New Zealand Government. Nearly a quarter of all Kiwis bank with Westpac, so we’ve got great experience and knowledge to draw on when it comes to helping people with their very first bank account, all the way through to their retirement. With more than 200 branches, and nearly 500 ATMs, we’re one of New Zealand’s largest banks. We provide a full range of banking and financial services for personal, business and agribusiness banking. It was fantastic to celebrate the opening of our new Nelson branch and offices this week. Our CEO Catherine McGrath was among those there for the Bridge Street blessing and opening ceremony, along with Shane Graham, CE Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua, who led the blessing, MP for Nelson Rachel Boyack, Nelson's Deputy Mayor Rohan O'Neill-Stevens and many others from the local community. Westpac provided the funding to Tinline Property for the construction of the building and we're thrilled to have been able to support a beautiful building that will play a key role in revitalising central Nelson. We look forward to welcoming customers to our new premises and continuing to support their ambitions. #TogetherGreater Cat Feaunati Fonteyn Moses - Te Kani Patrick Power Belinda van Eyndhoven Kellie Paterson Brent Callaghan Tony Pratt Leanne Cook Richard Borrell Peter Carey Shane Murray Ana Russ Sarah Wall Aleks Pos David Greig John Machell

The Westpac NZ Economics Team delve into the past week's tariff turmoil, the effects on the global economy, and what it all may mean for New Zealand.
Financial markets were thrown into turmoil last week in the wake of “Liberation Day.” While nerves have calmed, uncertainty around the outlook remains high. As we discuss in our latest Weekly Commentary below, New Zealand and Australia could both face sizeable disruptions, but there are some key differences between our two economies. The changing global back drop will also be a key consideration for the RBNZ. In other news, the Government has announced plans to increase defence spending. And on top of all that, we’ll get an update on the NZ CPI later this week, with inflation expected to pick up but still remain well contained. Westpac New Zealand is piloting a new “basic” bank account - a transactional bank account with simplified onboarding processes to support people who currently struggle to meet legal identification requirements. Westpac's recent reports - 'Access to Banking in Aotearoa' and 'Disability and Inclusion in Banking' - both highlighted that banks need to do a better job of serving customers who may be in challenging circumstances. "We’ve taken those insights on board and are taking this next step by piloting the basic bank account.” - Westpac NZ CEO Catherine McGrath Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gUQTkxqu #TogetherGreater Louisa Brock Mandy Snell Helen Ryder Andrew Twidle Sarah Wall Tom Bayliss Grant Fleming Jared Hutcheson Leona Sinclair Andy Beavan Sandy Nolier Reem Rawof Sarah Koo Monica Christensen Swastika Singh John Machell

Our Chief Economist Kelly Eckhold says despite the current global uncertainty, it's important to remain calm.
Don't panic! The global trade system is in flux and uncertainty is high. The RBNZ took a calm and considered approach by cutting the OCR as planned and indicating an intention to ease further. We need time to see where the global trading system settles to assess the final impact on NZ. A considered, careful approach is appropriate

Westpac's Sam Aschebrock is attempting to run for 24 hours this weekend to raise funds for the Choppers. Click through and support him if you're able. Go Sam! 🏃
Every year the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter charity conducts over 1,000 emergency responses, rescuing over 26,000 Kiwi's over their 50 year history. Which is remarkable when considering that each life-saving mission costs $5,000 to fund. They were also the first ever civilian aeromedical service provider in the world, and 100% rely on donations to operate their services. As someone who's ridden in the Chopper and had family members rescued, the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter is an essential service that save lives. Thus, from 9am on April 12th I will be running in the North Shore 24 Hour Challenge around a 6.4km track in Lauderdale Reserve, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland to raise funds for this critical service. If you want to join and help raise funds by also running, whether it's 1 lap or the full 24 hours, or simply want to spectate the event, and get behind it with donations haere mai! The more the merrier, LET'S GET IT! Here's the link for my Givealittle Donation Page: https://lnkd.in/gQJ5wYkh Appreciate any and all support!

At Westpac we’ve been privileged to support Community Housing Providers and their ambitions to get more Kiwi families in need into social and affordable homes. That capacity will now get a significant boost, thanks to a new loan guarantee scheme and $150m lending facility launched by the Government last week. In practical terms, CHPs will have more capacity to build in communities across the country than ever before. There’s still more we as a country could be doing to support CHP developments, but this is a fantastic leap in the right direction #TogetherGreater Read More at: https://lnkd.in/giXqTUPs
