About us

We’ve been helping New Zealanders find the right financial solutions to suit their lives since 1861. We first opened back then as The Bank of New South Wales, and then changed our name to Westpac in 1982. Along the way we’ve grown stronger by joining forces with the Commercial Bank of Australia and Trust Bank – to become Westpac New Zealand Limited. We bank all sorts of people and businesses – from young children, to first home-owners through to big corporates and the New Zealand Government. Nearly a quarter of all Kiwis bank with Westpac, so we’ve got great experience and knowledge to draw on when it comes to helping people with their very first bank account, all the way through to their retirement. With more than 200 branches, and nearly 500 ATMs, we’re one of New Zealand’s largest banks. We provide a full range of banking and financial services for personal, business and agribusiness banking. Don't panic! The global trade system is in flux and uncertainty is high. The RBNZ took a calm and considered approach by cutting the OCR as planned and indicating an intention to ease further. We need time to see where the global trading system settles to assess the final impact on NZ. A considered, careful approach is appropriate

Every year the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter charity conducts over 1,000 emergency responses, rescuing over 26,000 Kiwi's over their 50 year history. Which is remarkable when considering that each life-saving mission costs $5,000 to fund. They were also the first ever civilian aeromedical service provider in the world, and 100% rely on donations to operate their services. As someone who's ridden in the Chopper and had family members rescued, the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter is an essential service that save lives. Thus, from 9am on April 12th I will be running in the North Shore 24 Hour Challenge around a 6.4km track in Lauderdale Reserve, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland to raise funds for this critical service. If you want to join and help raise funds by also running, whether it's 1 lap or the full 24 hours, or simply want to spectate the event, and get behind it with donations haere mai! The more the merrier, LET'S GET IT! Here's the link for my Givealittle Donation Page: https://lnkd.in/gQJ5wYkh Appreciate any and all support!

  • At Westpac we’ve been privileged to support Community Housing Providers and their ambitions to get more Kiwi families in need into social and affordable homes.   That capacity will now get a significant boost, thanks to a new loan guarantee scheme and $150m lending facility launched by the Government last week. In practical terms, CHPs will have more capacity to build in communities across the country than ever before.   There’s still more we as a country could be doing to support CHP developments, but this is a fantastic leap in the right direction #TogetherGreater Read More at: https://lnkd.in/giXqTUPs

  • Meet Betty Shayle-George, one of our longest-serving employees. Betty was just 19 when she started with Westpac, then called Wellington Savings Bank, in 1978. Betty started as a teller in the Otaki branch where it was just her and the manager, Max. All the shops and townspeople operated in cash so it was a very manual, intensive job. Betty would manually count out withdrawals and deposits, issue bank cheques, write in savings account books, and open term deposits. Max was responsible for the lending in the branch. It was a small branch in a small town where people all knew each other. Betty said she was sometimes the only one in the branch – opening up or closing by herself if the manager went home early. If the branch ran out of a certain denomination of cash , Betty would walk down to the BNZ and exchange a cheque for cash. “There was just a lot of trust,” she said. Betty said one of the big changes between then and now was flexibility. She had a 10-month-old daughter when she first started but because there were no daycare facilities, Betty was lucky to have help from her mum. “I think the hardest thing when my daughter was young was that you didn't have many sick days. You had five sick days and you had to share those between yourself and your child.” Adding to this was the fact that fathers didn’t have flexibility either and society wasn’t set up to share the parenting load. Betty said the flexibility now was “awesome - it's definitely gone the right way”. Betty later moved to bigger branches in Levin and Wellington Central, sometimes with 8 or 9 tellers operating at once. She later moved into relationship management and lending and is now in Credit as a Business Credit Manager. The one thing that hasn’t changed – putting the customers at the forefront. “It's interesting when I look back, I was thinking how I used to make sure my customers were always at the forefront of everything I did - and they still are.” #WomenofWestpac #TogetherGreater Image: Betty Shayle-George now and (inset) Betty, then called Hikuraia, in 1980

  • It’s been six years since Westpac NZ became the first bank to join Living Wage Aotearoa New Zealand as an accredited employer. As well as paying at least the living wage to our own employees, we’re committed to partnering with contractors and suppliers who do the same. This means our cleaners, security guards and café workers all receive the living wage. Check out this video of some of those people talking about what this means for them. #TogetherGreater Arabella Toussaint Justin Brochocki Colin Trenwith Josh Devoe Geoffrey Lambert Martin G.
