Powering New Zealand's best farm businesses

About us

At it's core, FARMAX is a computer model that is used by farmers, farm consultants and industry to make feed planning simple, accurate and able to quickly clarify options. We have been developing and providing our flagship computer model for 20 years, initially called Stockpol and built by AgResearch, New Zealand's largest Crown Research Institute. In 2003 AgResearch formed a joint venture with AgFirst Hawkes Bay and Brownrigg Agriculture to form Farmax Limited. Backed by great science and great industry partners, our products are applications of a commercial strength not usually seen in agricultural software. FARMAX has evolved to become New Zealand's "standard" for assessing options for pastoral systems.

Project Manager at Onions NZ - Food and Fibre Youth Council

Yes, lets talk policy with NZ government. Excellent day last Friday with Food and Fibre Youth Network - He Tātai Rangahua attending the Future Farmers NZ: Future Farming Forum at the beehive. We had sponsored tickets for FFYN membership with representatives including fellow council member Hannah Speakman present on the day. Policy and its implementation has a big effect on how we operate in the primary sector. It can also be a lot to get your head around when you’re not in the day to day. When you hear from political parties, workshop policy, and engage one-on-one with politicians, its an opportune time to de-mystify wellington thinking. The morning started with an address from Simon Upton, followed by policy workshopping, and some thought provoking presentations in the afternoon. We touched on water policy/ RMA, gene technology, environmental intellectual property and data, and enabling catchment groups. Building the environment where you can engage in the hard conversations. This is building capability among young leaders. Thank you to Future Farmers NZ for inviting us. Last Wednesday, two of our Wairarapa sales and marketing team members attended the NZIPIM (NZ Institute of Primary Industry Management) Wearable & Renewables Field Day at Taumata Island Dairy. 🐄 Situated on a 450ha block, Taumata Island currently milks 450 cows with a production of 480 milk solids. With the goal of reducing operating and labour costs, farm manager Wade Hamlin says that the installation of their new FarmGen Solar system, in combination with Halter collars, is transforming how they run the farm. It’s the final day of South Island Agricultural Field Days. And one big thing we’ve noticed over the last three days is how technology is helping farmers manage their land in the best possible way. Whilst tech isn’t a silver bullet, it's certainly a powerful tool. One example of this is Farmax Ltd and FarmIQ Systems Ltd. Farmax is modelling software that makes a digital twin of livestock farms. Farmers use this tool to predict outcomes from hypothetical situations. FarmIQ is software that records the actual outcomes on the farm, which is then fed back into the model. Over time, the model learns and gets better at predicting the 'real' outcomes. Farm management becomes more effective and efficient, supporting productivity, animal health, and the environment, while meeting compliance requirements. And from a catchment management perspective, the more farms operate efficiently and make good, data-driven decisions, the better for catchments as a whole. #waiconnection #CatchmentManagement #SIAFD www.waiconnection.nz | Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust | Ministry for the Environment | Manatū mō te Taiao | www.eosecology.co.nz

  • Great to see how Pamela, Ian, and their team at Te Hoe are using a range of agritech tools to boost productivity while making smarter, data-driven decisions for their farm and the environment. From AI-driven pasture monitoring to wearable tech for herd health, it’s all about working smarter, not harder. A key takeaway? There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to farm technology. Every farm is different, and it’s about finding the right tools to drive profitability and sustainability together. Thanks guys!

    Chair - Waikato Regional Council

Last week, my husband Ian and I hosted a DairyNZ event at our Te Hoe farm that showcased how we make use of technology to improve productivity on farm. We kicked off the day by looking at how we now use AI for pasture monitoring using the Pasture.io platform. The technology means that Ian doesn't have to do long treks around the farm and instead he gets AI-driven insights every day. And using Resolution enables Ian to record critical information, data and reporting and allocate various tasks to staff. Senztag's national manager Jared Bekhuis talked about the wearables we use on the herd which measure rumination and ensure successful transition for their herd leading to better 6 week in calf rates and more days in milk. On our farm they have significantly reduced their empty rate after two seasons of cow manager on farm. But there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to on-farm tech. We spent considerable time researching what would work for our farm - and understanding how to prioritise profitability while minimising our environmental footprint. A great example of that? We now have a lower stocking rate to reduce reliance on imported feed. While we previously milked 530 cows, Farmax Ltd modelling suggests 440 cows is our optimum. Agritech is constantly evolving. Ian and I find it fascinating to see the advances in tools that further enhance productivity through real-time data, at the same time as giving us the ability to make decisions that also consider the environment as well as the bottom line. Speaking of the environment, we also showed the group our stream restoration project that we've been working on since 2022 and has seen 2 hectares of riparian land planted out in natives. Thank you to everyone who came along; there were some great questions and conversations! Fonterra Rabobank New Zealand Kent Weston-Arnold Charlotte Reed

  • Oromahoe Trust isn’t just about running a profitable sheep and beef operation, it’s about farming in harmony with nature. 🌱 Farm Manager Dean Candy and his team are proving that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand. Their commitment to the land and its people earned them the 2024 Northland Regional Supreme Winners at the Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd Farm Environment Awards! Using FARMAX and FarmIQ Systems Ltd, Dean and his team stay on top of pasture performance, track livestock, and make informed decisions to keep the farm running efficiently. FARMAX’s modelling and reporting help plan ahead and keep the trust’s 1,500 shareholders in the loop, while FarmIQ’s mapping and record-keeping tools make managing stock rotations and farm infrastructure easier. “It’s been a really good tool, so handy to use. It definitely makes life easier when you know you're going to be in strife, you can sort of manage your way around it pretty well.” 💬 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gedu8A6k
