  • At the core of our company is a mission that matters — creating a sustainable future through innovation, collaboration, and responsible resource management.  A great example of this in action is our Group Technology & Innovation Director, Mette Roti Egli, who was recently featured in Global Woman Leader. As an experienced leader in environmental technologies, Mette is part of the team driving smart, sustainable solutions for our customers every day. As she puts it: “I’ve learned that it’s not about knowing everything but about knowing who has the knowledge and how to access it. The next important skill is translating that knowledge into actionable solutions.” Her approach shows how real impact happens when expertise, purpose, and teamwork come together. •   🤝 Carbon2x program has reached a significant milestone in Finland as NG Nordic has signed preliminary agreement on land acquisition with the Riihimäen kaupunki - City of Riihimäki. The preliminary agreements signed now ensure sufficient land for the next phases of the project. 🌍 The goal of the #Carbon2x program is to capture carbon dioxide emissions from the incineration of non-recyclable waste and convert them into sustainable products, such as biodegradable plastics. 🏭 Last month, together with Ramboll, we launched an extensive study on the construction of the world's first industrial-scale pilot plant in Riihimäki, with the goal of capturing and utilizing up to 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year from flue gases by 2030. If realized, this will be a very significant step towards the era of more sustainable plastics. #sustainability #circulareconomy #CCU #carbon2x #INGA   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dPbZwpRj

  • We’re featured in one of Finland’s leading newspapers Helsingin Sanomat, highlighting the need to rethink recycling. Europe incinerates about 100 million tons of municipal waste annually, with even more going to landfills. Although the amounts of mixed waste are decreasing, there is no foreseeable situation where recycling based solely on sorting would be sufficient to solve the waste problem. We need to rethink what recycling is. Recycling needs to be examined also at the molecular level. One ton of incinerated municipal waste produces one ton of CO2. Europe generates 100 million tons of valuable raw material annually that could be utilized instead of contributing to climate change. Carbon molecules from incinerated mixed waste could be captured and used to create new products like plastic. CO2 capture and utilization are already reality. NG Nordic has piloted CO2 capture at Riihimäki's incineration plant and produced biodegradable plastic from incineration CO2 in 2024. Only non-recyclable waste should be incinerated. Comprehensive material circulation and increased mechanical recycling of plastics are essential. All methods are needed to achieve a genuine circular economy. NG Nordic secures European patent for a groundbreaking sulfate removal innovation! Industries such as paper, mining, and metal refining produce wastewater with high sulfate levels. Releasing this into rivers, lakes, and seas poses serious environmental concerns, as sulfates are known to contribute to eutrophication, harm ecosystems and reduce biodiversity. At the same time, these industries face increasing pressure to recycle process water instead of relying on fresh water. Existing treatment methods often rely on chemical precipitation, generating large volumes of sludge that are difficult to handle and dispose of. We have therefore developed a new patented method that enables the recovery of sulfur and hydrogen in pure form. Our solution combines techniques from different fields and holds great potential for industries seeking both environmental compliance and cost-effective operations, while minimizing waste and energy use. The European Patent Office has officially approved the patent, marking a major milestone for us in sustainable water treatment. 💧🌱

  • NG Nordic Backs EUs Ambitions on the Clean Industrial Deal and the Omnibus Proposals -This deal presents a crucial opportunity to position the EU as a global leader in the circular economy by 2030, however achieving this goal requires concrete actions and industry commitment, says Runa Opdal Kerr, Chief Impact Officer at NG Nordic.     The Commission raises the stakes by aiming to double the circular material use rate from 11.8% today to 24% by 2030. Reaching the targets would require use of the whole tool back: harmonized market for waste, market-pull for recycled products and diverting the waste streams that can be recycled and reused from incineration and landfillings.   The Commission has maintained its ambition also in Climate Policy. 2040 target of 90% net greenhouse gas emissions reduction remains as well as target of being fully decarbonized by 2050. NG Nordic are very pleased to notice that the Commission is aiming to acknowledge the use of captured carbon in a wider range of products – an objective we have been lobbying for.  We strongly encourage the Commision to include municipal waste incineration to the EU Emissions Trading System. It would be a win-win for circular and climate policy, as the inclusion will give a boost to recycling investments, as the cost of incineration would increase. We welcome the simplification proposal for sustainability reporting from the Omnibus package, but remain a strong advocate for transparency and harmonization of reporting standards. The complexity of the initial ESRS requirements with a fast pace of implementation risked skewing efforts towards reporting instead of real action. Pic: www.brussel.be
