The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners champions an industry dedicated to support global energy networks by delivering safe, efficient and environmentally sound transport services for oil, gas and chemicals. Its Members lead the continuous improvement of the tanker industry's performance, striving to achieve the goals of zero fatalities, zero pollution and zero detentions. They deliver the highest quality services and promote the availability and use of personnel with the best marine skills and competencies. INTERTANKO actively works on a wide range of operational, technical, legal and commercial issues affecting tanker owners around the world. • The Industry Associations of BIMCO, International Chamber of Shipping, IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association), INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO & OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) supported by over forty maritime stakeholders, have today released a consolidated and enhanced publication Best Management Practices (BMP) for Maritime Security (MS). As an interactive online publication, BMP Maritime Security consolidates previously published regional publications into a single, comprehensive publication with actionable insights and advice. It focuses on providing a threat and risk management process and, recognising the dynamic nature of regional security situations, provides signposts to direct users to the most up-to-date security intelligence and risk assessment information. INTERTANKO Managing Director Tim Wilkins, said: “As seafarers navigate conflict and armed threats, it is our duty as shipowner representatives to provide them with the most up-to-date information and guidance to ensure their safety. The revised BMP and related threat overviews reflect the collaborative efforts of many of our members, drawing on the hard-earned experience of the maritime industry. INTERTANKO considers BMP as being a vital reference for every vessel.” The publication is now available for download from our website. • This post is a tribute to the outstanding contributions of Mr Ole Christian Schrøder to INTERTANKO. Since his election as Chair of the Environmental Committee in 2019, Ole has played a pivotal role in navigating the committee through a dynamic and challenging landscape, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, the committee has produced key industry guidance, including INTERTANKO’s first ESG Guide, documents on Regional Ballast and Biofouling requirements, Electronic Record Books, and significant contributions to the IBTS issue, including numerous submissions to IMO. Beyond his role as Chair, Ole has been a valued voice in the INTERTANKO Delegation at IMO meetings, including the Pollution Prevention and Response subcommittee (PPR) and the Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC). His expertise and perspective have proven key to his roles as Vice Chair of the North American Panel and as a representative on the INTERTANKO Council. Ole’s contributions have been substantial in every capacity he has served, and his positive impact on INTERTANKO and the broader industry has been invaluable. As he embarks on new ventures, we extend our sincere gratitude for his dedication, insight, and leadership. We wish him continued success in all his future endeavours. Thank You Ole!
