🌊 Last week, the city of Bergen hosted the 3rd edition of One Ocean Week, a week dedicated to ocean-related challenges from various perspectives: economic, political, youth, and both national and international levels. 🌍 The One Ocean Summit, which kicked off the week, brought together political leaders, researchers, and representatives from multilateral ocean governance bodies to address the most pressing challenges facing our oceans. 🇫🇷 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫! His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Norway opened the summit with the words: "This week, we are preparing for the Nice conference in June." The French Ambassador for the Poles and Oceans, Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, participated via video to link One Ocean Week with the 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐔𝐍 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (UNOC3) and to thank Norway for its commitment to international ocean governance. Théophile Bongarts Lebbe, Head of Coastal Adaptation at the Ocean & Climate Platform, presented the specific challenges facing coastal cities worldwide and discussed the 𝐒𝐞𝐚'𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, driven by the Ocean & Climate Platform. This initiative brings together coastal cities, with Ville de Nice at the forefront, committed to actions aimed at adapting to rising sea levels. Jean-Pierre Gattuso presented the 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, of which he is co-chair. This UNOC3 special event, co-organized by CNRS and Ifremer, will gather over 2,000 scientists from around the world to provide heads of state, governments, and society with comprehensive scientific insights on ocean health and its future trajectory. 🪸 This 3rd edition of One Ocean Week was thought as a preparation for UNOC3, which will take place in Nice in early June! The theme of the One Ocean Summit focused on sea level rise and coastal city adaptation – a topic that will be further explored at the 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 & 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟕 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐞. 🏙️ The city of Bergen also signed the Sea'Ties Declaration, in the presence of Florence Robine, French Ambassador to Norway, and Sébastien Scutca, Special Advisor to the Mayor of Nice. 🎤 Youth voices were central throughout the week through the participation of the One Ocean Youth Panel. This year, for the first time, a French representative took part: Valentin Brione, co-president of Sciences Po Nations Unies (SPNU). L’Ambassadrice de France en Norvège, Florence Robine, a eu le plaisir de rencontrer M. Vegar Brynildsen, récemment nommé Ambassadeur de Norvège en France à compter de septembre 2025.
