The Science Behind Breathing 💡 Did you know that something as simple as structured breathing can improve your performance? Scientific research has demonstrated that systematic breathing exercises affect our body's functioning and psychological state. Remarkably, even brief five-minute breathing exercises showed to produce significant improvements in psychological and physiological performance. The science is compelling: When we engage in controlled breathing patterns, particularly at six breaths per minute, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reduce stress hormones (cortisol), and improve heart rate variability. These physiological changes enhance attention, memory, and decision-making performance. Neuroimaging studies reveal that regular breathing practices increase gray matter density in brain regions crucial for attention and emotional regulation. At Touchwaves, we are passionate about bridging science and innovative technology through design, using evidence-based breathing techniques to revolutionize wearables for human performance. 👉 Stay tuned to learn more! 🔬 The Future of Human Performance Monitoring: Printed Electronics in Smart Clothing Printed electronics are revolutionizing how we monitor body functions, offering groundbreaking advantages for understanding and managing our performance. Here's why they're game-changing: ✨ Ultra-lightweight and conformable designs that move naturally with the body, eliminating bulky wiring and ensuring precise sensor placement ⚡ Advanced manufacturing through roll-to-roll printing and hybrid integration, enabling cost-effective mass production 🏥 Seamless integration into smart textiles, enabling reliable long-term monitoring while maintaining user comfort Why integrate them into clothing? In extreme conditions, continuous monitoring is crucial. Traditional wired solutions are bulky and uncomfortable, while printed electronics offer an innovative wire-free solution that's thinner, softer, and unrestricting. The future of bio-signal monitoring isn't just about collecting data - it's about making the experience so seamless that we forget we're being monitored at all. Stay tuned for more... "MYSA is for girls like me" - these genuine words from a 16-year-old with anxiety reflect the core purpose of our work. Our dedicated pilot study at Levvel youth mental health institution showed clear potential for MYSA as a therapeutic wearable: - Supporting youth with anxiety, tension, and emotional regulation - Offering a practical alternative for those who find traditional treatment challenging - Helping youth reconnect with their bodies in a safe, controlled way What truly touched us was the unexpected positive response from youth with attachment issues, and how the wearable helped participants feel more in control of their emotional regulation journey. Our committed therapists observed how MYSA created a bridge between traditional therapy and self-regulation, making emotional awareness more accessible. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the dedicated therapists at Levvel - Arianne Schaaf, Els Jansen and Willem Karsten, and especially to Evelyn Visschedijk, for their dedicated support and valuable insights throughout this journey. 🔗 Interested in being part of this development in mental health support? 📋 Mental health support - MYSA study results We completed a pilot study with Garage2020, a Dutch institute innovating youth-focused solutions. Garage2020 tested our MYSA breathing support tool with healthcare professionals in youth mental health care with the focus for the trials: building resilience through practical breathing techniques. Ten youth therapists and mental health professionals participated in the workshop, implementing MYSA for daily stress management and mindfulness. The results were clear - 70% of participants reported improved body awareness and breathing focus showing that MYSA is a helpful tool to ‘pause and reset’ during busy days." Thank you to Hannah Boeijkens and the team at Garage2020 for leading this study. And appreciation to Evelyn Visschedijk for her consistent support throughout the project. 📋 Looking for a tool to enhance wellbeing?
