  • 🐾🌿 Celebrating natural diets: Insights from our poll! 🌿🐾 The results are in from the poll we shared recently, and we want to thank everyone for participating! A few weeks ago, we asked what's a common natural food for felines in the wild. The correct answer, as many of you guessed, is both C) Animals (like rodents, birds, or fish) and A) Insects! Out of 89 participants, 44% chose animals and 51% opted for insects. 🐈Cats are obligate carnivores, natural hunters that thrive on meat, fish, or other animal products for healthy functioning. 🐈Interestingly, cats also chase and enjoy eating insects, a behavior rooted in their natural instincts. 🐈Insects not only provide amusement for your cat, but also are highly nutritious. In the wild, cats and dogs sometimes snack on insects, it's a natural part of their diet! 😽🐶 #NaturalDiets #PetHealth #AnimalBehavior #InsectNutrition #WildlifeEducation

  • Don't miss out on these interesting insights from Marcel Dicke, Professor of Entomology at Wageningen University & Research and elected member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW)! Marcel suggests black soldier fly ingredients as a sustainable alternative to imported soy, especially as European tariffs on American soybeans could make them significantly more expensive. 🐜 The larvae of the black soldier fly are not only nutritious but also a favourite food of chickens and pigs! 🐔🐖 The benefits? Circular agriculture powered by locally produced insect ingredients. Science shows that insect protein can partially replace soy in livestock diets. Additionally, high-quality insect oil, such as Protix's LipidX, can substitute soybean oil in animal feed. A study found that replacing 1% of soybean oil with LipidX in broiler diets resulted in similar growth performance, welfare, and meat quality, highlighting its potential as an environmentally friendly feed ingredient. In the Netherlands, pioneers are already leading the way in this field. However, scaling up requires collaborate investments in research, innovation, financial, and political support. Let's embrace insect-based feed and leap toward a more sustainable future now! 💪🌍 Dutch not your thing?
