🛫 On our way back to Europe after some fruitful days in Dallas at the Animal AgTech Innovation Summit, we made a stopover in Washington DC. Here we had a sit down with Aaron Hobbs from North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture discussing how to strengthen #marketdevelopment of #insectfarming in the US 📈 🛬We’ll be back again soon attending the CEIF (Center for Environmental Sustainability through Insect Farming) Spring event in late May in Mississippi - looking forward to continuing our journey in the US. #businessdevelopment #partnerships #agtech #BetterInsectSolutions #poweredby Big Dutchman AG, Inno+, XIO – Intelligent Farming and SKOV A/S

Collaborative Efforts Driving #Greentransition in #AgTech and #Animalfarming🌱 At the Krug family farm in Bavaria, #insectfarming is excelling. In this video, you can get a good overview of how insect farming looks like in operation at one of the growers working with FarmInsect. The farming #technology can be scaled to operate at low to high tonnage input/output per day – and the video also gives a nice perspective of how insect farming can be integrated with other farming operations, like biogas and livestock production 🐟 🐔 🐷 Through the #partnership of BIS and FarmInsect, the production of insect larvae for #animalfeed or #petfood is enhanced by combining their #expertise in insect breeding with our #onestophub technology solutions from the #BigDutchman Group 🤝💡 #BetterInsectSolutions #poweredby Big Dutchman AG, Inno+, XIO – Intelligent Farming and SKOV A/S Watch right here: 🎬 https://lnkd.in/d_KXWwSQ

At BIS, we believe in the power of #partnerships, and #collaboration with academia to drive #innovation and create impactful #solutions. End of February, our Head of Business Development Lars-Henrik Lau Heckmann gave a presentation on industry perspective at a workshop with Danish peers organized by the DFF FTP2 project “Optimisation of insect production for animal feed through breeding” - led by Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Aalborg University, Denmark, Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics - Aarhus University and Biology - Aarhus University. Lars emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between R&D and commercial #insectfarming. By working closely with academic institutions and organizations like IPIFF (International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed), North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture and CEIF (Center for Environmental Sustainability through Insect Farming), we aim to integrate new knowledge with industry objectives, accelerating the international insect sector. #BetterInsectSolutions #Poweredby Big Dutchman AG, Inno+, XIO – Intelligent Farming and SKOV A/S
The end of February was also the end of a 4 1/2 year journey, as we marked the final day of the DFF FTP2 project “Optimisation of insect production for animal feed through breeding” with a seminar in beautiful Mols mountains with great colleagues ⛰️ PI Torsten Nygaard Kristensen opened the day with an overall presentation of the project, followed by Stine Frey Laursen and myself sharing key results obtained during both our PhDs. Lars-Henrik Lau Heckmann, Johannes Overgaard, Niels T. Eriksen and Kim Jensen contributed insights from other aspects of farmed insect research, covering both industry and academia 🪰🐛🍽️ Many discussions were had, both during the seminar and buzzing coffee breaks, but the conclusions were unanimous: this is not the end, and we might even have more questions now than before we started 🤔 Thanks to everyone who joined - can’t wait to see what we do in the future! Our Key Account Manager, Julius Hamelmann, represented BIS at the first Insect Round Table in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, organized by the Research-Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) and the Institute for Animal Production MV 🌍💡 The event highlighted the growing interest in insects as an alternative protein source with representatives from agriculture, science, and authorities discussing the scientific, economic, and legal aspects of insect production combining #innovation, #bioeonomy and #sustainabledevelopment. BIS presented the #agtech solutions for black soldier fly farming developed within the #BigDutchman Group, and Julius Hamelmann addressed numerous questions from the participants on the subject of #insectfarming. Research views the #blacksoldierfly as a livestock animal with exceptional metabolism and high utilization efficiency - and insect farming has a growing economic significance, especially with changing agricultural structures🌱 The news of the event was broadcasted on German NDR 1 Radio MV. Listen right here if you want to learn more (and understand German): https://lnkd.in/d29PajMK 🔊 Based on the positive feedback of the participants, another #InsectRoundTable is planned for Autumn to further advance research, discussions and #strategicpartnerships 🤝 #BetterInsectSolutions #poweredby Big Dutchman AG, Inno+, XIO – Intelligent Farming and SKOV A/S

What is the potential of insects as feed? Insects as feed presents a promising and sustainable alternative for livestock and pet nutrition. Through our #partnership with FarmInsect, we support a decentralized approach to #insectfarming that enables local utilization of by-products promoting #circulareconomy. The produced larvae are processed into pet food or animal feed which offer numerous benefits, including high nutritional value - produced in a resource efficient approach. At BIS we are proud to be a part of a transition that enables #sustainablegrowth working with animal farming 2.0 📈 Want to know more? 🪰 In Oberbergkirchen, Germany, FarmInsect have a breeding hub producing young #BlackSoldierFlyLarvae that are distributed to (at present) 7 different locations in Bavaria and Lower Saxony. Here farmers grow the very same insect larvae into sustainable #animalfeed or #petfood. This #circular production process is managed by FarmInsect in collaboration with BIS - a process that is not only #costefficient but also supports #sustainability. The alignment of FarmInsect and BIS adds a new revenue stream for farmers and promotes decentralized #insectfarming across multiple locations. ”Insect farming adds value to farms by utilizing organic residues that would otherwise be wasted.” - Thomas Kuehn, CEO and founder of FarmInsect.
