💪 Moving forward. Every day, more than 30,000 patients benefit from the medical isotopes produced by NRG PALLAS in the reactor. To secure continued supply of these isotopes, the PALLAS-reactor, new and state-of-the-art medical isotopes reactor, will be constructed at the Energy & Health Campus in Petten. The new reactor and new surrounding nuclear infrastructure will not only secure the supply of medical isotopes, but will also further strengthen the Dutch nuclear sector, and develop innovative nuclear technologies.   We would like to share that NRG PALLAS and FCC’s agreement on the scope, schedule, budget and technical solutions for the construction of the first part of the PALLAS-reactor building is now in place. The agreement marks an important moment on the trajectory of the PALLAS-reactor realisation.

🚧 The last step of the Pit & Foundation underway! We are excited to share we started with pouring the foundation floor of the reactor building. The 1,5-thick floor is poured in 5 parts and once completed, it will deliver the complete foundation for the construction of the PALLAS-reactor.     The concrete layer is poured through the previously installed reinforcement bars. 🧬 In 2009, the world faced severe shortages of medical isotopes. As a result, doctors were unable to diagnose and treat patients when needed. “A situation we want to avoid at all costs in the future”, says Program Director at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport Marieke van Dok in the video below, when we asked her about the importance of the PALLAS-reactor. "There are fewer than six reactors in the world that can produce large amounts of isotopes," she explains. "Adding a new reactor is crucial to ensure that patients in the Netherlands and across Europe continue to have access to affordable medical isotopes in the future." 🚧 Works on the final step of the Pit & Foundation have been underway. The total of 790 tons of steel reinforcement bars are being placed in layers at the bottom of the pit. A 1,5-meter thick layer of concrete will be poured in coming weeks. That will deliver the foundation floor of the PALLAS-reactor.

👷♀️ To celebrate International Women’s Day, we spoke with one of the (many) inspiring women at NRG PALLAS who are contributing to the PALLAS project: Construction Manager Anca Necula. She shares her journey into the nuclear sector, her experience leading complex contract batches, and her hopes for the next generation of women pursuing careers in engineering and technology: "I hope the idea and concept of a women in a certain role or domain is not to be considered exceptional anymore".

💪 Moving forward! NRG PALLAS and FCC Construcción have been jointly preparing for the construction works of various parts of the PALLAS Programme. For the construction of the secondary cooling system building pit and drilling for the cooling water piping, we are excited to share that the agreement for the scope, schedule and budget is in place.   To keep cooling the PALLAS-reactor, water from the Noordhollandsch Kanaal (inlet of the pipelines) circulates in the secondary cooling system of the reactor. The water is disposed to the North Sea (outlet of the pipelines). We strive to minimize any potential impact on the environment, where the works are conducted.
