  • Welcome back to #ThrowbackThursday: The ESG edition 🤝 UN Global Compact: Aligning business with sustainability In 2000, the United Nations Global Compact was introduced as the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, calling on businesses to align their operations and strategies with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. This voluntary framework was designed to encourage companies to take responsibility for their impact on society and the planet, fostering ethical business practices that contribute to long-term sustainable development. 📝 The ten principles of the UN Global Compact are derived from key international agreements, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and more. By committing to these principles, businesses integrate sustainability into their core operations, promoting responsible decision-making, transparency, and ethical leadership. Today, the UN Global Compact has grown into a global movement with over 15,000 participating companies across more than 160 countries, driving meaningful change in corporate sustainability. At Nexio Projects, we guide companies in embedding these principles into their operations, helping them navigate the complexities of sustainability and align with global best practices. • 🌍 B Lab’s updated impact topics As we discussed last week, B Lab has launched its new standards for B Corp certification — setting a higher bar for what it means to be a force for good. 📌 The updated framework introduces 7 non-negotiable impact topics with new requirements, designed to embed purpose, accountability, and meaningful action across companies of all sizes and sectors. Here’s the path your organisation needs to take to align with the updated requirements: 1. Purpose & Stakeholder Governance – Align decisions with a defined purpose and build governance to monitor social and environmental performance. 2. Fair Work – Ensure fair wages, quality jobs, and positive workplace culture. 3. Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) – Build diverse, inclusive cultures and support equitable communities. 4. Human Rights – Ensure that employees’ human rights are respected by identifying and addressing risks across operations and value chains. 5. Climate Action – Commit to science-based targets and limit global warming to 1.5°C. 6. Environmental Stewardship & Circularity – Contribute to the circular economy by reducing negative impacts to stay within ecological limits, while actively pursuing positive environmental outcomes. 7. Government Affairs & Collective Action – Use your voice and influence for systemic change and transparency. These standards bring more clarity, rigour, and impact, making it clearer than ever what it means to be a leading, responsible business in today’s world. 🔗 Source: https://bit.ly/4jhcZJM 💡See how we can support you with B Corp certification: https://lnkd.in/e5x8e_WV #BCorp #Sustainability #ImpactBusiness #CorporateResponsibility

  • 📢 Proposed changes in the SBTi Net-Zero Standard version 2.0 The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has published the draft update to its Corporate Net-Zero Standard, aiming to drive more robust and credible climate action. Here are the key proposed changes: 1. Near-term action over distant promises The SBTi V2 draft places stronger emphasis on near-term emissions cuts — requiring at least a 50% reduction by 2030 — through sector-specific benchmarks and stricter validation, encouraging companies to act now rather than rely on distant net-zero promises. 2. Beyond carbon offsets The proposed changes also limit offset use and prioritise permanent carbon removal, pushing companies to cut emissions directly and only use high-quality offsets for truly unavoidable emissions 3. Scope 3 accountability Scope 3 action is strengthened by requiring targets for companies with significant value chain emissions, offering clearer guidance and tools to engage suppliers and reduce indirect impacts effectively. Read our article for a more detailed look at the new standard, including revised timelines and strategic implications for your organisation: https://lnkd.in/enrHmSVa 🌎 These changes matter because they respond to mounting scrutiny around corporate greenwashing and the credibility of climate targets. While the standard is still in the public consultation phase, it’s time to take action now to be one of the leaders in the global decarbonisation. 👉 See how we can help you to align with the updated SBTi framework: https://lnkd.in/eNUffUYw #SBTi #NetZero #ClimateAction

  • B Lab just launched its biggest standards overhaul yet on the 8th of April; designed to align with new EU regulations like the ECGT Directive (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition) and raise the bar for credible, accountable sustainability. Here's what you need to know: ✅ Phased certification: Companies now meet staged Year 0, 3, and 5 requirements with ongoing improvements instead of the ‘80 points-scoring’ —no points, no “set-and-forget,” just a higher bar for all. What it means: No more “set-and-forget” recertification and no more points, just a higher bar to be met by all companies. Strategy now requires multi-year roadmaps fostering continuous, measurable progress. ✅ Deadlines & transition paths: - For SMEs re-certifying in 2025, the latest date by which they can submit is by 30 June 2025 on old standards (v6). - For SMEs re-certifying in 2026, they will receive a 12-month extension + mandatory transition to new standards. - For EU B2C companies, it is recommended to align with ECGT Directive by September 2026. Old certifications won’t pass. - Large Enterprises will need to re-certify in the new standards after Jan 2026. ✅ Third-party certification: Assessments are now external to meet EU greenwashing rules such as ECGT What it means: Increased rigour and credibility, but potentially longer timelines and higher scrutiny. ✅ Mandatory impact topics: Seven non-negotiable areas replace cherry-picking—companies must meet standards across all. What it means: No more “cherry-picking” high-scoring areas. The new standards are all about holistic transformation, weak spots can’t be offset by strengths. Stay tuned for our upcoming post next week, where we will dive into each new area! 🌱 Read more about the new standards here: https://bit.ly/4jhcZJM 👉 Here is how Nexio Projects can help with your B Corp certification: https://lnkd.in/e5x8e_WV #BCorp #BLabNewStandards #RaisingtheBar #impact

  • Welcome back to #ThrowbackThursday: The ESG edition 🌿 Kyoto Protocol: First step in global climate action In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol was adopted as a groundbreaking international treaty under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It marked the world's first major collective effort to combat climate change by establishing legally binding emission reduction targets for 37 industrialised nations and the European Union. 📊 The protocol set an ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 5% below 1990 levels during its first commitment period, spanning from 2008 to 2012. To help countries achieve these targets, it introduced innovative market-based mechanisms, including Emissions Trading, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and Joint Implementation (JI). These mechanisms provided flexibility while promoting sustainable development and international cooperation. This landmark agreement laid the groundwork for future global climate policies, influencing subsequent treaties such as the Paris Agreement. At Nexio Projects, we do our best to continue this legacy by assisting companies in setting and achieving science-based targets that align with global climate goals. • This Monday, we were delighted to host HEC Paris MBA students in our office, for an insightful session on ESG strategy and purpose-driven business. We also invited the winners of our ‘consultant for a day’ raffle; Laura Philippe, Hanna Latić and Kristiana Qerosi, who got to know Nexio Projects closer and attended the session alongside HEC Paris students. Our consultants shared key sustainability approaches with the students, and facilitated a case study on how Tony's Chocolonely can scale its impact model while staying true to its mission and maintaining authenticity and credibility.🍫 As part of the workshop, students formed cross-functional teams, each representing a different internal function within the company. They were challenged to craft a strategic response to the case, identify a key trade-off or risk, and highlight dependencies across teams, reflecting the complexity of real-world decision-making. 💡 The workshop was both interactive and informative, sparking relevant discussions and creative thinking across the group. 🙌 A sincere thank you to the all the students for your thoughtful perspectives, energy, and engagement. Special thanks to Lilia Kalimullina, Rachit Paliwal and Cilia Keser for hosting such an insightful session! We look forward to continuing the dialogue around purpose-driven businesses and fostering future leaders of sustainability.

  • NEWS: ♻️ Major Dutch companies are calling on the new cabinet to take urgent action to accelerate the circular economy. At the initiative of MVO Nederland, companies IKEA, bol, Zeeman textielSupers, Auping Maroc, Royal LC Packaging, Boer Group, Avantium, Renewi Nederland, Modiform B.V. and Strukton, with a combined turnover of €10 billion, are urging the government to break the deadlock on circular progress. This follows the alarming ICER report showing the Netherlands is stagnating in reducing raw material use, with circular business stuck at just 4–5% of GDP. The coalition proposes six breakthrough measures, including: • Banning ultra fast fashion platforms • Mandatory circular procurement • Doubling investments in circular economy • Tax breaks for repairs and recycled materials • Incentives for high-quality recycling • Support for circular innovation With the right steps, a stronger, more resilient circular economy is within reach, bringing benefits for people, planet, and long-term prosperity. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ei7e8mDh #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenTransition
