Here are the key proposed changes: 1. Near-term action over distant promises The SBTi V2 draft places stronger emphasis on near-term emissions cuts — requiring at least a 50% reduction by 2030 — through sector-specific benchmarks and stricter validation, encouraging companies to act now rather than rely on distant net-zero promises. 2. Beyond carbon offsets The proposed changes also limit offset use and prioritise permanent carbon removal, pushing companies to cut emissions directly and only use high-quality offsets for truly unavoidable emissions 3. Scope 3 accountability Scope 3 action is strengthened by requiring targets for companies with significant value chain emissions, offering clearer guidance and tools to engage suppliers and reduce indirect impacts effectively.
