Denim Deal is a collaborative global initiative scaling the use of post-consumer cotton.
Over ons
The Denim Deal is a global public-private collaboration composed of key value chain partners with one key mission: close the loop in denim by normalising and increasing the use of PCR cotton in its products. Its mission: To produce 1 Billion pair of jeans made from at least 20% post-consumer cotton. Through concrete workshops, pilots, and alignment with legislation this initiative aims to support its members, to build the knowledge needed, and make the connections required to build successful reverse supply chain solutions reflecting today's business reality.

🌍 A Global Vision, Rooted in Regional Action At Denim Deal, we believe that scaling post-consumer recycled (POCR) cotton requires a global approach—but one that is deeply connected to regional ecosystems. That’s why we’re building a network of regional hubs, designed to plug into local realities: 🔹 Tapping into regional textile waste streams to close the loop locally. 🔹 Aligning with national policies & regulations to drive effective change. 🔹 Working within existing supply chains & business models to scale sustainably. 🔹 Strengthening local innovation while contributing to a broader, global impact. By leveraging regional strengths, we ensure that circular solutions are scalable, adaptable, and truly embedded in the realities of each market. Because a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work—but a globally connected, regionally empowered model will. #DenimDeal #CircularDenim #PostConsumerCotton #SustainableFashion #GlobalImpact #RegionalInnovation #FutureOfDenim

🧐 Why is Post-Consumer Cotton Feared? Many ask us about industrial waste—and while that’s important, it’s already being recycled at scale. But the real elephant in the room? The waste that comes after—when millions of garments are discarded and forgotten. So why is post-consumer cotton (POCR) feared? 👕 Sorting is complex—it requires solid operations and infrastructure. 📏 Limited specifications—unlike industrial waste, POCR doesn’t come neatly at 98% cotton. ⚠️ Contamination is a challenge—blended fibers, elastane, dyes… you name it. 🧵 Fibre length & yarn quality—getting it right requires some tweaking But here’s the thing: Mills can now easily work with 20% POCR. We know it works—the technology is there, the processes are improving, and brands are already making it happen. 🚀 What’s holding us back from scaling? The industry needs confidence. We have to connect the dots, optimize processes, and most importantly—believe in POCR. Half of the battle is breaking the psychological barrier that post-consumer cotton is too difficult. The future of denim is circular—and it’s time to push POCR forward. Who’s ready? #DenimDeal #CircularDenim #PostConsumerCotton #SustainableFashion #FutureOfDenim #Innovation #ScalingSolutions

This week the official launch of the Denim Deal France Hub took place in Paris. We were graciously hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in France in Paris in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure. A big thank you for their hospitality. Congratulations to the amazing team in France Stephane POPESCU and Vanessa LE BRIS for such a successful event. As the France hub doors open we look forward to welcoming new members to our initiative, adding further momentum to our mission to scale post consumer cotton and achieve our goal of producing 1 Billion pair of jeans containing at least 20% POCR cotton. 👖 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵: 𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻! Yesterday, the Denim Deal France has be launched in Paris. At the Atelier Néerlandais, producers, brands and retailers were brought together to share a common goal: making denim the most circular fabric in fashion♻️. This inspiring and forward-thinking event was organised in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Denim Deal , COSE361 and our own embassy team from Infrastructure and Water Management. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 Originally launched in the Netherlands as an initiative of the 🇳🇱 Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management the Denim Deal is now expanding across Europe and beyond to accelerate circularity in the denim industry. By proving that large-scale post-consumer recycled (PCR) cotton can and should be used in new denim garments, the initiative aims to set a 🌍 global standard for sustainable denim production. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹? It is a global public-private collaboration dedicated to closing the loop on denim. Its main mission? Producing 1 billion jeans containing at least 20% post-consumer recycled (PCR) cotton by 2030 🧵. Through practical workshops, pilot projects, and alignment with legislation, the Denim Deal supports its members in developing the knowledge and supply chain solutions needed to scale up circular denim production. 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗨 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 The initiative is fully in line with key European regulations, including: ✅ The EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles (2022), which mandates durable, repairable, and recyclable clothing by 2030. ✅ The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which promotes the use of recycled fibers. ✅ Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which will require brands to take responsibility for textile collection and recycling. 𝗔 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 By anticipating these regulations, the #DenimDeal demonstrates that large-scale circular textile production is not just an idea but a realistic and achievable goal 💪. With ambitions to expand beyond the Netherlands, this initiative serves as a model for how governments, brands, and industry leaders around the world can work together to reshape the future of fashion. A huge thank you 🙏 to all the participants for their enthusiasm and engagement. The journey towards a more sustainable denim industry has only just begun, and we look forward to shaping the future together! 🚀 Who’s ready to take denim to the next (circular) level? #NLFRtoujoursproches #CircularFashion #SustainableDenim #InnovationTextile #ResponsibleFashion #DenimForTheFuture #TextileRegulations #RecycledCotton Mariëtte van Empel, Alexandra Van Milink, Arnoud Passenier, Citeo, ORÉE, MUD Jeans, Nicolas Prophte, Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat

What if the fabric of the future is already here—and we just haven’t embraced it yet? In my latest episode of Resilience Gone Wild, I sat down with textile engineer and Denim Deal founder Nicolas Prophte to talk about a massive untapped opportunity: recycled cotton and true circularity in fashion. As Nicolas puts it: “The technology is here. The will is there. The capability is there. But without brand commitment, the system can’t shift.” So what’s really holding us back? Many brands still don’t know the technology exists. Others worry recycled fabrics won’t meet quality standards, or that the margins won’t work. But Nicolas and his team are proving otherwise—with pilots, blind fabric tests, and international expansion. The kicker? Most designers and quality managers couldn’t even tell the difference between recycled and virgin cotton in a blind test. So if recycled cotton looks, feels, and performs the same—what would it take for us to demand it from every brand we buy from? In this clip, Nicolas breaks down the challenge: shifting mindsets, increasing visibility, and creating demand. Isn’t it time our clothes aligned with our values? Listen to the full episode (link in comments), and let me know: What role do you think brands—and we as consumers—should play in pushing for real change in fashion? #ResilienceGoneWild #SustainableFashion #DenimDeal #CircularEconomy #RegenerativeDesign #Resilience #CottonRevolution #PurposeDrivenBusiness #WinWinWin
