Climate Adaptation Services (CAS)

De lente is nog maar net begonnen, maar er zijn in maart al meer dan 80 natuurbranden in Nederland gemeld, onder andere op de Sallandse Heuvelrug, in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen en bij het Gooimeer in Naarden. ☀️ Dit heeft te maken met de droogte. Op sommige plekken is deze maand nog helemaal geen neerslag gevallen. Daardoor is een deel van de grond uitgedroogd, wat de kans op een natuurbrand vergroot. 🔥 Wil je weten waar de kans op natuurbranden hoog is? Dit kun je bekijken in de Klimaateffectatlas. Het kaartverhaal Natuurbrand laat per gebied zien welke locaties gevoelig zijn voor het ontstaan van een natuurbrand. Werken groen en schaduw echt om de omgeving te verkoelen? En hoeveel koeler wordt het dan? Voor de Provincie Noord-Brabant maakten we een kaartverhaal over veranderingen in gevoelstemperatuur tussen 2012 en 2022. 🌡️🌳 Voor elke locatie in Noord-Brabant van 20 bij 20 meter laat het kaartverhaal zien of de gevoelstemperatuur tussen 2012 en 2022 gemiddeld is gestegen of gedaald. Zo kun je direct zien wat voor effect veranderingen in bijvoorbeeld de stedelijke inrichting, aanwezige schaduw en groenvoorziening hebben op de gevoelstemperatuur. 🌱 Het kaartverhaal licht ook de effecten van een aantal vergroeningsmaatregelen uit. Zo zijn er op verschillende plekken in Moerdijk bomen aangeplant. Doordat deze bomen tussen 2012 en 2022 zijn gegroeid, zijn die plekken koeler geworden. De komende maanden gaat onze nieuwe stagiair Esther Kers ons team versterken. Ze gaat aan de slag met de update van de monitorkaart stresstesten op het Kennisportaal Klimaatadaptatie. 🌍 Esther volgt de bacheloropleiding Aarde en Klimaat aan Aeres Hogeschool Almere. Na een halfjaarstage bij de gemeente Epe en een stage van drie maanden voor het Europese project Twinned by Stars op Gran Canaria zit ze nu in de afstudeerfase van haar opleiding. Haar stage bij CAS is hier onderdeel van. 🗺️ In 2025 starten overheden met een nieuwe ronde stresstesten en daarom wordt de huidige monitorkaart geüpdatet. Our colleagues Timo Kelder and Sophie van der Horst organized the workshop "Co-designing Aruba's Climate Impact Atlas" in Aruba last week, in collaboration with Aruba's National Climate Resilience Council (NCRC), the Ministry of Transport, Integrity, Nature and Elderly Affairs, and the International Panel on Deltas and Coastal Areas (IPDC). 🌴 The event brought together around 50 stakeholders at Hyatt Place Aruba Airport. During the workshop, participants from the public and private sectors, as well as non-governmental organizations, identified climate change impacts and hazards specific to Aruba. 🌎 In addition, they identified relevant maps and data that could support climate resilience efforts and proposed creative ideas for compelling climate stories. 🗺️ These valuable insights will contribute to the development of Aruba’s Climate Impact Atlas and its National Climate Adaptation Strategy. We are excited to announce that the Climate Impact Atlas will be released at the end of May 2025! 🤝 Thank you to all the stakeholders and local partners who shared their expertise and insights! 📢 On Thursday 30 January, PIISA Project is organising the webinar "Adapting to climate risks through green roofs: insights from the Netherlands". 💡This webinar will delve into how insurances can stimulate the adoption of urban nature-based solutions, specifically green roofs.  You will hear about research and practical applications for the Netherlands. For the financial sector, national and international business, we are setting up a new portal: the Dutch Climate Risk Portal. The goal of the portal is to give professionals insight into possible climate risks in the Netherlands. ℹ️ What kind of information will the Dutch Climate Risk Portal contain? And what exactly can you use it for? Detmer Koekoek and our colleagues Lars de Ruig and Simone Kroes tell you about it in a new interview on our website. 🗨️ Detmer Koekoek: “The portal is primarily a data hub that we hope professionals will adopt as the ‘go-to place’ for climate data about the Netherlands, enabling better analysis and decision-making. Ultimately, we also hope it will accelerate the development of climate data, and that it will inspire dialogue between different experts and sectors about what data is needed and how to use it." 🗨️ Lars de Ruig: "In addition to directing users to state-of-the-art maps on the Climate Impact Atlas, we also provide context. What exactly are you talking about when discussing flood risks? Coastal flooding or river flooding? Flooded streets and roads due to heavy rainfall, or issues like mold and moisture in basements caused by high groundwater levels? We also want to offer users the tools to start with an initial climate assessment themselves.” 🗨️ Simone Kroes: "Our goal is to make the portal available in the second or third quarter of 2025. For the climate data and climate hazard information provided on the portal, we are working closely with various content experts from the Dutch climate field." 💶 The Dutch Climate Risk Portal has been commissioned by the Dutch Ministery of Infrastructure and Water Management. ➡️ To make sure the portal meets user needs, we have created a user group to help us test a beta version of the portal.
