"Europe is setting new regulations. We and our European partners are well prepared. For EPACs to continue to be considered equal to muscle-powered bicycles as a means of active mobility and not be subject to #typeapproval, the restrictions and requirements mentioned must be incorporated into the legal regulations,"said ZIV’s CEO Burkhard Stork. One of these requirements suggested by ZIV (in collaboration with Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry - CONEBI) is a maximum support power of 750 watts, prompting counter arguments from within the industry. “What matters to a bicycle's character and product safety is not the power of the drive, but the actual acceleration and absolute speed," writes Hannes Neupert. "Therefore, we should focus together on clarifying the situation at the level of the definition of a bicycle. Mixed voices were heard about the state of affairs and future of the industry at this year's TAIPEI CYCLE. The unpredictable outlook for the business due to the US conflicted trade war has disrupted the supply chain at an unprecedented level. A seldom seen occurrence on day 2 of TAIPEI CYCLE - an open #protest regarding the treatment of industrial workers. Although in this case it wasn't specifically related to the treatment of employees within Taiwan, but a factory in El Salvador which made apparel for Specialized Bicycle Components. In better news for the domestic industry, the Taiwanese ESG alliance, the BAS, has welcomed a #humanrights code of conduct to support those working in the industry.
