OpenAI is in talks to acquire AI coding company Windsurf for $3 billion. Before this, OpenAI had approached Anysphere, the maker of Cursor, for a potential acquisition, but the talks did not succeed. Anysphere is reportedly in discussions to raise capital at a $10 billion valuation, while Windsurf generates about $40 million in annualized recurring revenue. OpenAI's interest in acquiring Windsurf highlights its focus on capturing a significant share of the code generation market. Hence has launched an AI 'advisor' called Hence Global to help companies manage geopolitical and business risk. The tool assists organizations in tracking risks and provides advice on mitigating them, while also generating analysis for service providers like consulting and law firms. CEO Sean West said the product is affordable and aims to democratize access to information, making it accessible to startups and NGOs that can't afford expensive consulting. Hence Global uses AI models to analyze data from various sources and provides daily updates tailored to a customer's needs. Perplexity AI is reportedly planning to integrate its technology with Samsung Electronics and Motorola Solutions smartphones. OpenAI has introduced Flex processing, a new API option designed to offer cheaper AI model usage at the cost of slower response times. Flex processing is currently in beta for OpenAI's o3 and o4-mini models and is aimed at non-production tasks like model evaluations and data enrichment. The pricing for Flex processing is significantly reduced, with costs halved compared to standard rates. OpenAI has also implemented an ID verification process for developers in certain usage tiers to access these models.
