  • 🌍 Meaningful conversations on sustainability and circularity 🌱 This week, we had the privilege of hosting a dynamic exchange with representatives from UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) and UNEP-WCMC, exploring pathways to strengthen sustainable urbanisation and environmental resilience. Thank you for your insights Tam Hoang, Sustainable Urbanisation Specialist, UN-Habitat Bangkok Multi-Country Programme Office, Avantika Singh, Programme Associate, Source to Sea Pollution Unit, UNEP Headquarters and Sarifah Yaacob, Waste Management Associate Expert, UN-Habitat Bangkok Multi-Country Programme Office. The dialogue covered a range of topics, from integrated waste management and circular economy strategies, to innovative approaches tackling pollution from source to sea. #MinBZ

  • Yesterday we concluded another MY Orange RBC Working Group meeting, which we organized together with the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC). The topic of this session was Forced Labour.   With the European Council’s recent adoption of the Forced Labour Regulation (FLR) on November 19, 2024, companies operating in or exporting to the EU must ensure compliance with stricter regulations prohibiting products made using forced labour. The regulation will enter into force in 2027 and companies will have until then to prepare. To help businesses navigate these changes, we hosted this event to explain more about the EU Forced Labour Regulation and to discuss the Malaysian context.   We welcomed speakers from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs of Foreign Affairs (Amanda Gomes Lôbo) and Tenaganita (Joseph Paul Maliamauv and Raj Sridaran) to combine both perspectives. Thank you for your valuable contributions!   The webinar provided valuable insights on the regulation’s implications for companies and their supply chains. A closed-door session followed at the Embassy, offering RBC WG Members an opportunity to engage in deeper discussions on the state of forced and bonded labour in Malaysia.   Some Key Takeaways: 🔹 The FLR prohibits the sale and export of products made with forced labour within the EU market. 🔹 Businesses must enhance due diligence in their supply chains to meet compliance standards. 🔹 Collaboration and proactive measures are essential to foster ethical trade practices and prevent forced labour.   A big thank you to our speakers, partners, and all attendees for making this session insightful. Your engagement strengthens our collective commitment to responsible business conduct.   📌 Missed the session? Stay tuned for future engagements as we continue fostering dialogue on sustainable and responsible business practices. #ResponsibleBusiness #RBCworkinggroup

  • Today is World Water Day 💦 Every year, we celebrate World Water Day to raise awareness of the importance of water. 2025 is the international year of glacier preservation which is also the theme of this year’s World Water Day. For the first time in history, mankind has pushed the global water cycle out of balance. Rainfall, the source of all freshwater, is becoming more erratic. Glaciers are melting faster than ever. As the planet gets hotter due to climate change, our frozen world is shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable and extreme. This affects all of us. For The Kingdom of the Netherlands (KNL) water is, has always been, and will always remain a priority issue. Our Kingdom, with its low-lying river delta flowing into the North Sea and small islands in the Caribbean, was quite literally shaped by water. As former co-host of the UN Water Conference we are committed to put water at the heart of the global political agenda. In Malaysia although there are no glaciers yet adverse effects of climate change impact our daily life. The issues of intense rainfall, floods, droughts and sea level rise are complex and require holistic approaches to overcome. As former co-host of the UN Water Conference we are committed to put water at the heart of the global agenda. We are now working together to share knowledge and solutions internationally.  In Malaysia we have been supporting the efforts of building climate resilient ecosystems that have long term benefits. Prioritizing conservation of the natural ecosystems mixed with green infrastructure and sustainable planning approaches. Water is at the heart of achieving many of our collective climate and Sustainable Development Goals. 💦Let's take water action! 💦 #WorldWaterDay

  • Wetlands are essential in mitigating climate change because they absorb huge amounts of CO2. The Netherlands is one of many countries with extensive wetlands. That's why we are a signatory to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Together with our international partners we believe it's time to restore wetlands. As they can help us accelerate our efforts to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. https://lnkd.in/eUMgZ8DN Water is at the heart of achieving many of our collective climate and Sustainable Development Goals. 💦Let's take water action! 💦

To mark the International Day of Happiness, the latest World Happiness Report has been released, and the Netherlands has climbed back up to 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 among 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝. While rankings fluctuate a bit every year, one thing remains clear: factors like social support, and a healthy lifestyle continue to contribute to the well-being of people in the Netherlands. This year’s report also highlights the importance of #caring and #sharing in fostering happiness - a reminder that #connection and #generosity matter more than ever. Happiness is, of course, more than just a ranking. It's about the connections we build, a sense of belonging, looking out for one another, and the quality of life we create together. We reflect on this year’s results, reminding us that well-being isn’t just personal, it thrives in communities. Curious to see the full rankings? Finland remains in first place, followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden in the top four. We acknowledge the importance of continuously working towards a society where #happiness is accessible to all. #InternationalDayOfHappiness #SolvingGlobalChallengesTogether Embassy of the Netherlands in Finland
