Pleased to share that Boson Energy is one of #100innovations globally picked out by 2050NOW La Maison for #RegenerateTheFuture, the 2025 title of their very ambitious annual trend outlook - released at STATION F in Paris last week. Boson Energy is one of five '#Circular economy and #waste management' solutions highlighted as part of the 'Remodeling (Regenerative visionaries)' section spotlighting 21 companies – with the other two themes being 'Rethinking' (Rethinking AI and with AI) and 'Rewilding (Innovating with and for nature)'. The black 'crystals' on the front page look a lot like our vitrified glass slag, no? (last picture below). Rob Day does an excellent job spelling out the reasons for the shift within #WasteToValue (or #WasteToX) from 'technology push' (very tedious), to 'market pull' (scramble to keep up with interest) in the below Forbes article – also explaining why PE and infrastructure funds are getting active in the sector and why they should be. It also brings up some of the new thinking that is required from these PEs and funds due to the distributed nature of waste – which is also a key opportunity if handled right from a technology blueprinting/scaling and business model perspective. Key takeaways include: 1. It’s relatively politics-agnostic. Waste is a problem across many geographies, [...] also simply represents a lost opportunity for efficiency and cost reduction, and everyone wants to improve their bottom line. Diverting waste from landfills, and finding ways to use waste as an input, should therefore be less prone to the vicissitudes of party politics. 2. There are opportunities to generate multiple revenue streams. For some waste solutions, the operator can both get paid to take waste in, and then get paid to sell the resulting products. These can often be tied to long term, price- and volume-stable contracts, which infrastructure and private equity investors love. 3. Waste opportunities can often be localized, with the treatment / production system being located close to where the waste is produced, or close to where the output products have demand. 4. The solutions are often relatively simple, technically. We’re not talking about building fusion reactors here. [...] Successful efforts in waste are quite often more about engineering capability, commercial / sales execution, and project development skills, rather than some whiz-bang magic patent. Fully agree with the 'watch outs' in the article as well, and no waste to value technology, business model, and scaling can be successful without managing these.

Back at Bio360 Expo last week, and entrusted with two topics; 'Waste to SAF' and 'Electrification-of-Things with H2 from Waste' – and interesting questions and debate ensued. Paul Stuart had once again pulled together an impressive 360 of the bioeconomy. Thank you for the invitation! The key points from my end were: #StopBurningStuff ’Burning stuff’ has been at the core of energy and waste management for thousands of years - and it is still dirty and inefficient... Incineration is the fax machine of waste management and most combustion for mobility also has to go – IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON. As an example; 26M tons of waste incinerated in Germany generates a less than impressive 2.4% of German public electricity. Switching to gasification-based H2-powered fast charging, that same waste could power more than 60% of heavy duty trucking. #GreenDiscount 'Green premium' is all but dead, at least if you want to reach material scale and impact dead. To attract capital, we need to be both competitive and profitable on commercial terms. 'Only profitable business is sustainable business', to loosely quote both Bertrand Piccard, Steve Howard, and Yair Reem #FossilParity Competing with fossil is not just about price. It is just as much about #availability at point of use, and #effect (speed and capacity of charging). We are sitting out to unseat a behemoth of an incumbent here, we have to be competive on all fronts #Partnerships Build a model that is fit for blueprinting and industrialisation - including AI and digital digital twins. Distributed solution of identical plants generate much more applicable data and intelligence than large scale installations - use it! Establish and leverage partnerships (like Boson's with Siemens) to build 'unlimited' capacity to scale from day 1. I enjoyed listening to, and paneling with, Frank Ligthart, Julien GRANDJEAN, Antoinette Maarawi on SAF, and Yann LE BRECH, Mathieu VILLANI, Yoann Hodeau, Andrés Ponce on H2 and electrification. Moderators Sary awad and Mathieu MOREL pulled off bridging two wide topics (always a pleasure to catch up, M. Morel). As usual, talking to the audience afterwards is gold. Found myself before a 'non-energy' crowd, to highlight the #risk we are running of crashing #electrification – and the awesome #opportunities that #waste represents to catalyse it... in 6 minutes... which is a formidable challenge 😊 Judging by the curiosity afterwards, it sounds like it landed ok and opened some eyes. Including surprise at the fact that there is enough otherwise non-recyclable waste in Germany to electrify 95% of heavy duty trucking – without drawing a single kWhe of power from the grid. Just to make sure it is clear and we avoid that rabbit hole in the comments, NO hydrogen trucks here, only electric trucks. Also no burning of waste. Native carbon capture. At or below diesel parity on commercial terms. That is the whole point. Key takeaway from the New York Climate Week: A lot of players are talking about First of a Kind (FOAK) installations of promising technologies as key to the climate and energy transition, which it clearly is. We have not seen the talk about it translate into a lot of action so far, but one of the things I take away from climate week is that a lot of important actors are coming together and moving on FOAK, both public, multi-lateral, and private money. And as usual the momentum is picking up faster in the US is than in the EU. This was my first time at climate week, people tried to prepare but was still overwhelmed. I am still trying to structure my thoughts main takeaways from the week, so I guess a follow up post will be needed :) I would also like thank the amazing team who brought me and 20 other outstanding climate-base companies as part of the first Israeli delegation to the climate week. A huge shout out to Lior Gaon from the Israel Export Institute מכון היצוא , Anat Katz and Max Coën from the Israel Economic Mission to the USA - East Coast Ronit Eshel from the ISRAELI INNOVATION AGENCY and to Noam Sonennberg from PLANETech - Climate Change Technologies. This partnership is a true milestone for Boson Energy, in that it unlocks the combined capabilities of the Siemens verticals Process Automation and Electrification & Automation, and Siemens #SmartInfrastructure to support our standardization and rapid scaling. This is Siemens leaning into circularity, decarbonisation, reducing infrastructure stress, automation and digitisation of waste-to-X; and the vision and drive of respective vertical CEOs Axel Lorenz and Stephan May (co-signing the MoU) and their teams, especially in Sweden, have been instrumental in the process.    Original press release on the Siemens website here: https://lnkd.in/eEYCfmCZ   The cooperation allows Boson to focus on our core activities, delivery and quality of the reactor system, with Siemens adding chemical and electrical engineering, instrumentation and controls, all products around smart charging, smart infrastructure, digitalisation and AI – covering the full value chain of DC-DC fast charging and DC-AC power grid support, and the infrastructure around it.    To all 'hydrogen pragmatists' out there... this is not about catering to an H2 vehicle market that doesn't exist and requiring massive investments in a large-scale H2 infrastructure that doesn't exist. This is a about getting rid of inefficient and inflexible incineration and landfilling – to realise the full local resource potential of the otherwise non-recyclable waste that we all produce. We do this by ’cracking’ rather than burning the waste and deploying  the  resulting H2 as local H2-powered fast charging and H2-powered grid support; and avoiding expensive large-scale compression, storage, and transport of H2 – including process-native carbon capture without expensive add-ons. The result is electrification of heavy-duty transport that is cheaper than diesel and relieving and supporting rather than stressing the grid.    The press release references our target of 300 plants, While that may sound ambitious, we need to think big to address the global challenges of infrastructure stress, decarbonization, and sustainable waste management. PLANETech was a highlight last week. Very encouraging to see the waves of Israeli climate tech startups rolling into the local ecosystem and moving it forward. PLANETech - Climate Change Technologies is one of few events where we exhibit, and we are already looking forward to next year.    Boson CTO Liran Dor engaged in conversation on ‘electrifying everything’ with panelists Nir Brenmiller, Amir Livne, Adi Vagman, and moderator Itamar Weizman). Liran, as usual, made the case for the critical role and game changing potential of otherwise non-recyclable #waste in relieving stress on #infrastructure, #environment, and #climate – by e.g. driving local grid-independent #fastcharging of heavy-duty vehicles by local #Hydrogen produced from waste.
