Webinar Recap – Navigating US Tariffs for Cambodian Exporters On Wednesday, 9 April 2025, AmCham Cambodia hosted a timely and insightful webinar on “How to Navigate US Tariffs,” featuring Tom Mills, legal expert and partner at Forum Law Partners. The event maxed out at 100 attendees, and in line with our commitment to serve the wider business community, we are happy to share its contents publicly, here (https://lnkd.in/gqXFs4sG). AmCham supports your business in times of growth and adversity alike. To find out how, click here (https://lnkd.in/guY26kDi), we'd love to help you. 🔍 Key Takeaways: 📌 The new 49% US tariffs, effective April 9, are layered on top of existing 232 and AD/CVD tariffs — with Cambodia facing some of the highest rates globally. 📌 Tariffs apply when goods enter the United States, and misclassifying or misunderstanding the country of origin can lead to serious penalties. 📌 Common mistakes include: • Wrong HS code classification • Assuming US buyers will handle compliance • Mislabeling product origin (e.g., China-to-Cambodia transshipments) 📦 Real-World Example: T-shirts made in China and only packaged in Cambodia are still considered Chinese origin and subject to high tariffs. 💡 Strategies for Exporters: ✔️ Conduct a full compliance audit (HTS code + COO) ✔️ Adjust supply chain and consider shifting final assembly ✔️ Use bonded warehouses or explore tariff engineering ✔️ File for exclusions or join US legal challenges 📣 A highlight from the session: “China has turned Cambodia into the most important transshipment hub that Communist China uses to evade our tariffs.” – White House official 🔗 Stay tuned for more in-depth policy briefings and compliance events from AmCham Cambodia! #AmChamCambodia #USCambodiaTrade #Tariffs #ForumLawPartners #TradeCompliance #ExportStrategy #SupplyChain #HTS #CustomsLaw #CambodiaBusiness

🚨 AmCham Cambodia Engages with the Ministry of Economy and Finance on New U.S. Tariffs 🚨 Yesterday, AmCham Cambodia, led by President Casey Barnett, CFA, FCCA, had a productive meeting with His Excellency Phan Phalla and his team at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Cambodia) to discuss the Reciprocal Tariff recently applied by the U.S. Administration to Cambodia. We sincerely appreciate the Royal Government’s willingness to listen to the concerns of our business community in the wake of these new tariffs. Cambodia has a real opportunity to renegotiate a much more preferential trade arrangement with the U.S.—but swift and decisive action is needed. AmCham Cambodia has already issued a formal statement urging an end to these tariffs and calling for reasonable, balanced solutions that address U.S. economic and security concerns while ensuring Cambodia’s continued economic growth. We stand ready to support the Royal Government in these negotiations to safeguard Cambodia’s competitiveness, attract investment, and create jobs. 🤝💼 Casey Barnett, CFA, FCCA (President), Anthony Galliano (Vice President), Devin Barta l AHF Products (Governor), Bora Kem (Governor), Matthew Alexander Pocock (ED) #AmChamCambodia #TradeRelations #CambodiaEconomy #USCambodia #Tariffs #Competitiveness
